hey so i am planning on shaping a new short board and was planning to copy a "fat arse wombat" I did a lot of looking on sways and came up with this pic for my out line ( see the pic)
the thing is i am 5 11 and 95kgs and intermedate surfer. I many ride mal and my short board right now is 6 '10 but i really want to drop it a bit. I am on sure if 6,4 will be to small for me. ie not enough volume.
any chance one of you guys with a aku shaper could put the dims in and work out the volume. i can get aku to run on my computer. i was planning to keep the board thick around 2 7/8 to make up for the lack of length.
anyway cheers for your help
Volume could vary drastically depending on foil and deck shape. The "magic" 3 numbers that everyone goes by, length, width and thickness are not all that they're cracked up to be. 2 3/8" thick with a thick foil and a flatter deck where volume is carried out towards the rail will float much better than 2 7/8" with a domey deck, pinched rails, and a tapered foil. bottom contours, rocker, wide point, the placement of thickness under the chest and a ton of other things will make a difference in how many waves you can catch on this thing. try to find a simiar board that a buddy has, and ask if you can swap for a session, test it and make imaginary improvements in your head. visualize every aspect of the board and as your shaping it, imagine how it will paddle and surf.
