Help with outline

I am interested in getting some feedback on tail design. I am shaping a new board and wound like to get some ideas on outline and tail design. How important is curve in the last 1/4 of a board? Is rocker more important  in this area?

Take a look at this tomo:

How do you want to: surf, kind of wave, how to turn, trim,.It’s about how and where you want to surf. Then you can start thinking about shapes.

It completely depends on what your going for. The last 1/4 of the board is arguably the most important part of a surfboard. Think about it, it's where the fins are located, and where most of your turn comes from.it is almost always in the water.

If your gonna go with a wide squash tail, you might want to check out some 80's style bump tailed squash boards. They have super exagerated hips. goal in doing this is to keep the boards outline wide and strainght, then you get to the tail, and it narows rapidly, allowing for more maneuverability, and easier rail to rail transitions. The bump would occur at the front edge of a thuster's rail fins. also remember that if your gonnashape a wide tail like that a little Vee would help you be able to transition rail to rail, and not get stuck. more rocker would loosen things up back there in the tail, but the Vee that you would add would add more rail rocker itself. good luck
