Hey Mitch - check out the pic! (Re: Wanted: background on G&S Skip Frye 7'11" shape) *PIC*

Mitch, Did you see the photo I posted? Click on the link below to check it out. Does that look familiar to you? Let me know… Thanks, John http://www.swaylocks.com/discussion/board/index.cgi?read=14908

Oops, sorry - didn’t know the pic itself would show up when I pasted in the other message URL. Apologies for this redundancy… John

Hey John, Did you receive my latest e-mail on Monday(20th)? Mitch

Hey John,>>> Did you receive my latest e-mail on Monday(20th)?>>> Mitch Mitch, Yup, I already read it. Thanks… John

John, I think you may be able to contact Skip at: Skip Frye Surfboards 1161 Cushman Ave San Diego, Ca 92110 619 - 688 - 9886 The guy’s really busy and into doing other pursuits so I can’t say he’ll respond to personal questions about the past…but one never knows! I do know that if you’re interested in a new shape…expect to wait about four months before even placing an order! Good luck. et me know what happens. I’m just as curious as you are about this board. Aloha, Mitch

Anyway, I picked up the board yesterday & took some dimensional measurements you might be interested in: 19 1/2" nose 23 1/4" midpoint 16 1/2" tail 7’11" overall length It is a square tail (as the picture clearly shows), but no vee is present. This board has kind of a funky deck patch design. There is the familiar double arrow knee patch that many of the Skip Frye models had, but it also has a 2/3 patch all the way back to the tail on both sides. That is something I haven’t seen on almost any older board, much less one of these. This Skip Frye appears to be essentially a mini-mal (mini-longboard), shaped to scale. It’s also about 2 3/4" thick & has pretty sharp, almost pinched rails. Very low full length rocker or foil on the entire board. I think it might be a '66 due to the lack of real nose/tail rocker & extreme longboard measurements in such a compact template. BTW, I tried calling Skip’s shop, but got no answer - left a message instead. Will post some new photos when I get the board back…dropped it off this afternoon to have some minor repair work done to make it watertight. Hope to have it in the water by Sunday. Let me know if this description helps you remember any further about it. Best Regards, John
