Hi Ambrose

Hi

Been reading your kinda out there but oh so true posts for a couple months now.

Are you originally from SF, or the Pedro scene.

You mentioned some PS guys, but also Beachball (who’s both, I thought).

Did you spend a lot of time in Kaui?

Just wondering, you don’t have to answer if you feel uncomfortable about it, of course.

I started with help from DanFoley, Jim, LilMike, the Duncan bros, and the outer Sunset crew at Santiago/Taraval first in '64.

Of course, I know/knew almost all the Kelly’s crowd of the 'late 60’s thru early '80’s, and in '66, left my board at Pedro Pt. Surf Shop (the Washburns, god bless them)

yep I been trying to draw some of you guys out…does SUNSET SAVAGES sound familular? that was a special summer…I was born in the city as was my father ,I lived in visatation valley and surfed pedro regularly left my board at guptills house shaped with richard barth and dickie and left in august of 1968 and relocated to Kauai that same year…surfed pedro with the duncans and other brothers from the sunset and learned many lessons in their company in and out of the water my move west opened and closed many doors simultaneously…many city friends and aquaintences have coursed the life over here and i think of them all …there are places I remember in my life though some have changed…ambrose…Gar, Bill. phil, tom ross ,Tommy detoy …rip… pete, bill Kohler , eddie and ross conroy, john meyers, john childs ,chris mose, dan sooey, rodger meinninger, frankie freitas ,and I learned to swim at hamilton pool

Wow!

Thanks for the reply.

I know more than 3/4 of the guys you listed.

I might have given you a ride to Pedro a few times in my white Mercury Comet in like '66.

Yah, you were the legend, until TR won the Pedro Pt. contest anyways.

Since I started in '64 hangin at Taraval with the Foley’s, you were THE guy everyone talked about on the beach.

Hope you live a great life, look back on your history with proud thoughts, have no regrets, and keep on truckin.

I still miss Jungle Man since in followed you to Kaui.

the threads that make up our lives twist into yarns that can make a fine warm comfortable blanket for the colder days of our advancing age michael Duncan went to maui? after passing out at the wheel of his new truck they wouldnt let him work and tanked him up on pharms…he got old quick…ambrose…I’m thinkin merc? yea foley’s and I remembered bill and don? jones the jones brothers and rodger that lived down the street from pat o’keefe yep hitchhiking to pedro I got a lot of rides …aloha …ambrose…

Hey Ambrose

Glad you are still around to share the stoke. You always led by example, and it worked.

Jungle Man as in longhaired Paul, and his little brother, both Pedro surfers.

Gar was in my school classes from '57 to 64, then lost track of him.

TR, Daryl Scobie, Ross, and Lonny Magnuson are still SF Firemen, and still surf.

Eddy got married (Lea), he lives in Sharp Park, near TR and Ross.

Joey Valera still surfs, and windsurfs OB. Still has more stories than anyone, and let’s you know. RV has a million kids, and the rest moved North.

PeeWee is still a contractor, lost track of Ken.

Lost track of Tamby and Eddie Tavaseive (sp).

Lost track of Steve Phieffer, the classic Kelly’s goof.

I haven’t surfed Pedro since around ‘84, when Fat Dave got his board bit by a shark while sitting 4’ to my right. Discovered windsurfing…missed Aaron Wright’s shop by just a few months.

Do you know whatever happenned to Dan Foley? He was my “protector” all thru Ulloa Elementary School, and I never saw him in my surfing Sloat days ('68-80).

Roger Meidenger was my tennis partner in the late '70’s…really!

Kinda random but was wondering if you still keep in touch with Lonnie? Long story short he used to take care of me when I was really little kid for a couple years. Taught me how to surf and play baseball. Would love to drop him a line!
