Hi guys, could you please critique my board?

Hi guys I am just new to shaping and I would really like to post some pics of the board I just shaped. I have done the spray job to represent the pride I feel at my Jewish heritage. I have been reading for a long time annd I know people on here know a lot about surfboards and the right way to do things and I would love for some people to critique my shape. Thanks guys.

Did you come up with that template yourself? Why did you go with a tri fin configuration instead of a twin keel? Could you post some dims? The art looks more Rasta or Wiccan to me. My critiques are over. Nice first board.

Hey yeah that is my own planshape. I tried to merge the trancendental, mind bending speed-demon qualities of the lis fish with the vertical manevering and the aerial capability of the traditional thruster. I’m pretty stoked, I tried to put single to double concave to v to rolled v to flat bottom exit to give it maximum speed with a scooped to dome to flat deck for maximum volume. I hope it turned out ok.

Two smallish pictures is hardly enough visually to give any kind of serious criteque other than planshape and color…

What else you got…???..

it’s an unusual planshape, to have a wide point forward on a thruster, & it sounds like you were pretty adventurous with your bottom & deck contours. i guess the proof in the pudding is how it goes for you.

i’m sure it has brought you lots of joy in the building. i hope it brings you lots of joy in the riding too. happy surfing to you mate.

Looks like it’s being consumed by “Surfboard Eating” vines.

Gotta keep your eye out for them

You should take out an advert in one of the surf rags! You could sell a million of 'em.

Just kidding. Looks like a great first (?) effort. I would like to see a foil shot to see how you matched the rocker.

Next board stick with one shape or the other, your trying to blend two different boards. Hopefully it will be magic, but i feel it will be “frankenfreak, the board from the man eating vines”. Work on smoothing out the plan shape in the board ass area, it looks like the tail plan shape dives in pretty hard to that swallow tail. Maybe next time if you want it to really pull in the tail you could use a wing in there. I see a Wing, Stinger, Swallow, Vert, nose rider, retro, gun…with a full color tint. That’s where surfing is heading now a days young man

Nice job for your first board, looks fine

I’d call it the Gefilte Fish (after another great Jewish blended creation), slap some big side fins on there with a smaller trailer, and let 'er loose in some lined up surf.

Bottom contour sounds a bit crowded for my tastes, but I’m a simple man. Also, could be the angle, the size of the pics, or the fact that all FCS plugs look off to me, but those FCS plugs look off to me.

Good to see another tribesman shaper. Good looking first stick.

Looks like it could be a fun first board, but I agree with retro. It looks like the fin placement on the viewer’s right side is turned in a tad too much. If you run a straight edge up the fin line on the pic, it runs over the stringer to the opposite side of the board. It may just be a trick in the picture but if not, you will want to fix it.

Have fun with it!

It came out perfect. It’s the best first hand shaped board you will ever have so enjoy it. Shalome. Mike

I don’t know, I just surfed it and it seems to turn better in one direction than the other. Could be something to do with the FCS plugs, I’m not sure. Has anyone out there tried a board like this? It is really front-footed, I wonder if that is good. Shalom!

that’s the forward wide point in operation. it’s good if you like it!

shalom, chevre…

not a bad first board! just need to find the perfect fins to give it the turnability off the tail and drive down the line that the board needs. experimentation is key!

i have a friend in tzfas who has inspired some of the artwork on a few boards i have coming up in the near future. check it: www.kabbalahart.com
