High density EPS expansion post glassing?

I was talking with an established shaper who said he couldn’t use 3 or 3.5 lb density EPS due to the blanks expanding too much. Anyone heard of or seen this?

I would think the opposite, less expansion since there’s less air spaces between the beads. Lately, I’ve been hearing from some glassers about venting the board during the last layer of laminating. Haven’t really looked into it yet.

Ya it didn’t make much sense to me either. Hence the post. I don’t think you even have to vent EPS over 1.5 lb. Possibly the expansion he was talking about wasn’t due to off gassing. He wasn’t too specific. But it seems like it would require a lot of force to expand a board after it was glassed. Then again you can split rock with wetted wooden dowels. Anyone else have an idea?
