Has anybody come across a hinged-nose surfboard? A friend of mine was telling me his dad had one that he bought from Con in the late sixties. The board would collapse and he’d toss it into the trunk of his car after a surf. Apparently the hinges weren’t reliable and the nose kept breaking off. What’s the story with these and how did the hinges attach – were they plastic?
Greg: I’ve seen a Con with a metal joint that seemed to be along the same design lines as the earliest Pope Bisect/Trisect. We are talking pretty far back and with no resemblance to the modern day Pope Bisect project. This board was no doubt a coveted collector’s item (in Pat Magee’s collection) and surely few were made. Makes me feel kind of old to think that I’ve now witnessed two versions of the Pope Bisect and the coming and going of bell bottoms twice. Naaaaah! I’m still riding a 5’10" twin fin fish and loving life. Tom S.>>> Has anybody come across a hinged-nose surfboard?
