Historical question re board lengths

It might be my faulty memory, but I seem to recall that boards used to be commonly available in 1 inch increments, a long time ago. Now they’re only sized in 2 inch incrments. Anyone know when and why this started happening? Width dimentsions seem to be adjusted in 1/8 inch increments, and thickness in 1/16 inch increments. With everything else so fine tuned, you’d think boards would still commonly be adjusted in length in 1 inch increments. Also, I’ve got a 7’4" Anderson Bojorquez, and I weigh about 140 lbs. I’m curious about what sizes other people with similar boards are riding. Happy new year to everyone.

Could be something to do with all the computer shapes maybe?

Maybe it’s to cover up the idiots who shape for big names. If they shave 'em a little too much, it’s still a 6’6" and not a 6’5".

i ride a 7-4 bojorquez also. my weight is around 155 lbs. i can sit on the outside with guys on longboards and easily catch set waves. this design is super fun in small to medium size surf and a great alternative to logging it.
