Hitachi F 30 A

Howzit guys,

I’m gearing up to do a couple more boards and I realized a while back that I have a big ol’ Hitachi sitting in it’s case doing nothing.I bought it over 20 yrs ago from a retiring carpenter and I’ve never used it.

There’s a bit of outlay of time and money involved, replacing blades and jury-rigging some kind of vac setup. So, before I go to the trouble - anyone used/use one ? Would it work for shaping ?

It’s just under 16 in.( 395 mm.) long and weighs 4 kg.

What size is a Skil ?Weight and glide is desirable , no ?

There’s a nice little Ryobi calling me at Bunnings but I can save some pennies this way.

Thanks in advance for sharing any wisdom , guys.

I like the hitachi you have its a good working planner. You can modify it to fit your needs. Better than the Ryobi.

I own one and use it for big boards and balsa. Very fine tool. Check out for a thread about it and how to make a simple and unexpensive “on the fly” depth set-up.
