Hitachi planer

I have a Hitachi 20 Sb planer and when i cut into the foam the shards fly everywhere. I went to the store and checked online at the website for an attachment but there was nothing. I was wondering if anyone knew how to either re-direct the foam through some kind of tube or if there is something i could add on keep the foam from going everywhere?

yes, you just need an exhaust/vacuum attachment and a hose to get from there to your shop-vac or similar. Foam EZ still sells them I believe, look on their web page under shaping tools/power tools…

do you need to have a shop-vac for it to work?

You could use some tape to direct the foam downward. Thats is cheap and effective.

Call me weird but I’ve been placing the exhaust hose down my shirt so the dust flows downward and out of the way. I don’t have the ceiling attachment and I cant stand the foam dust in my eyes.

I’ve been putting the hose down my pants. That way when I fart a lot it keeps me from overheating.

I just put the hose down my pants…

Home Depot sells a bag attactment made by Dewalt that works very well without spending alot of money

the dewalt attachment does not connect directly to the planer does it? will i need another attachment to make it work because i saw the dewalt at OSH and it did not look like it would fit.

Yes you will need the hitachi adapter.

is that the same adapter that i get in Foam EZ and if not where can i get it

yes it is…I put one on my planner today. real easy to do. the hard part is finding the 1-1/2" hose to fit.

I’ve looked at Home Depot and Lowes and can’t find a slinky type hose…you might want to pick that up when you order the exhaust.

I do like the dewalt bag idea,. How many times do you have to empty it on one board?

where can i get the hitachi adapter

I don;t have the Hitachi (I’m in the market for one if anyone has a lead) but here’s what I rigged up and has worked well for me. Takes about 3 minutes to setup / break down -

Bosch planer, 1-1/2" rubber hose clamp; one end stays on the exhaust port, with a turn of a screwdriver the other side attachs/comes off a soft rubber kenmoore vacuum cleaner hand tool extension hose -

The other end of the hose is hangs from above the center of my shaping racks, hose clamped to a 4’ length of plastic tubing running along the ceiling. The other end of the plastic tube has another rubber hose clamp that has a larger diameter on the other end to accept the 2-1/4" hose of my shop vac, which clamps on or comes off easily with aturn of a screwdriver-

I use wire ties on the extension hose to hold the planer power cord out of the way

Hoppa,

you get the adaptor from foam ez. under shaping tool and then power tools.
