Hollow Timber Surfboard

Hi everyone

i am about to start building my first hollow timber surfboard, i live in melbourne australia and am struggling to find anywhere that sells timber i can use for the decking. I have found a place that sells 6mm thick paulonia, can anyone tell me if this thickness will be okay? I am building a 6’4 fish.

Thanks for your help

Hello Michael, and welcome to Swaylocks!  Yes, as long as the supporting framework is adequate, that is a common thickness for decking.  You can get additional help specifically dealing with wood boards by clicking here, here and here.

And check out this awesome thread here by mr. Wood Ogre, and "Plunk down your 2 cents and come into my thread and let me entertain you with deads of daring do!! Watch while I create magic before your own eyes! As I jump through clouds of balsa dust, risking life and limb as I rip up piles of wood with pourful tools !"

Also, if you can post pics of your design, you'll find there is no shortage of hws builders here (that are both knowledgeable and generous with that knowledge), who can offer imput - including the godfather of hws, Paul Jensen, and Mr. Wood Surfboard Supply himself, Tuck.
