Hollow wooden 6 foot 6 swallowy-taily-semi-gunny-fishy thing

Finally making some proper progress with my second project, already had a discussion about whether a pig should or should not be called a fish, hence the subject line. Anyway some piccies attached of the stuff done, framing, deck skins etc. The deck will be two halves of oak faced ply split with a 2 1/2 " strip of sapele and the bottom is a negative of the deck.

Big thanks to all at Swaylocks for inspiration and advice for my last board, hopefully not having to ask as many daft questions this time around. I’ll keep posting the progress reports as they happen (sporadically as always).

Nice work there FBLA, coming along well there.

See how much easier it is the second time around…

What are you going to do the rails with?

cheers

Hicksy

Rails? What rails? thought I might try gluing some bicycle inner tubes around the outside and inflating them to about 900 psi, light and very bouyant and if you puncture in the right place you wouldn’t have to paddle at all…jet propulsion.

No, cork tiles and ply again I think unless you have any other suggestions.

I’ve got some gorgeous cherry and beech wood that Im going to layer up to make some fins out of, if they turn out good I’ll send you a set over if you fancy.

Take it easy

Well , tonight the deck was cut to shape and GLUED onto the frame and it’s starting to look good. I’ll post another progress pic tomorrow when the clamps are off and it’s been trimmed up. Hopefully get time to glass the inside before going to Croyde for the week. I’ve found some top geezer down the road who can supply me with resin, glass cloth and even some free off-cuts of carbon fibre big enough for internals and fins…job’s a good’un!

Cheers for now

Howdy,

prgress pic after glueing the deck and trimming it up. I’ve also glued in some blocks for leash plug/fin at the tail end frame but you can’t see that.
