homemade plan shape- by me!

BgSurfer- that sounds like a good formula you devised there! I bet you came with some fun riding boards as well! Dunno, but I feel pumped doing it by hand vs a puter… I get a sense of feeling like an artist instead of a person relying on a machine to do it all for you…fyi- I can use all kinds of programs but I’ve chose not to. I also believe I will shape my entire board perfect -or close as I’ve had 3 boards before me doing it my own adapted way here. I’ve also corresponded with pro shapers, got ideas from sways(you guys), my studies on google and yahoo, as well as using my own intuitiion and creativity. Anyhow, I totally feel 100% it will be a fun highly funcional board. I also am taking my time as it will be for myself, plus I’ve had a set -back(few tickets). I ended up colliding into a gal as a j walker darted out on a busy strip where I live… Lucky I barely saw her and managed to hit the brakes… Sadly my truck slid into her rear end a bit. Now I have to deal with some costs… A slight set-back, but it will give me ample time to bargain for tools and blanks. Gonna try using a second blank if I can locate a good one? If not I might just land a sale deal? In the meantime I’ll make template and gather more tool, make my shaping stands with the 5 gal paint buckets and wood chunks… Make my calipers and buy a level etc… Atleast I got my hitachi p20sb! fyi- I found @ sears online for $99.00+ shipping. Looks sweet btw! T c and best regards to all.

Bud- I bet is costs… And money I am short on. I recently had an accident, bought a planer and need to cut costs to get my project done. And if opted to do a cad set-up I will need to buy an entirely new pc as mine at home is fried… Trust I can make a board as good or better then one made off a pc. No offence-just sayin technology does not necessarily mean a better end result. What if you take a guy who’s never surfed and made a board with a computer? Will is surf very well? I doubt it. This is why I’m going to go my route.but ty for into k.

Tblank- that’s some commendable art work man! Very cool tips and concepts. Anyhow, the reason I used the rular was I found a ‘flexie’ one… Fyi- home depot has it for dirt cheap! And it works perfect- prob just like your cool metal dowel… I even almost used an automotive antenna… I geuss anything that can make for a good bend and clean line will work!
But the ease of use, time and user friendlness is second to none. I mean think of how much $ one needs to run a pc, not to mension have to own a printer etc… And all of that costs $(over $800.00 easily!) that I don’t have… But I have steep rent etc…, so my method is my only option. I think you an relate, others don’t seem to get it? But I think more will-especially with this ecomomy…
May as well smash my laptop to pieces?!.

SWAYLOCKS IS BECOMING THE NEXT JERRY SPRINGER SHOW!!

THE ONLINE VERSION.

i’M JOKING OF COURSE.

nothing against traditional methods, my suggestion is just another way to create & print outline templates. I don’t think you understand that you don’t need a ‘CAD setup’ & I didn’t say you have to use a planer.

15 minutes at www.boardcad.org on a PC at your local library, about 8 sheets of paper for a shortboard. if you like cardboard, then just trace it to cardboard & forget the $8 piece of masonite. you keep saying money is so short for you and what I have laid out is practically zero dollars.

… or don’t, just sayin.

Bud- thanks for the input… But I think I’ve had my fill with pc’s… Long story man. Had an asshole break into my unit about a year ago and my $1700.00 lap top is broken, sold printer and I hate how much internet costs… As for library? I don’t drive as I lost my truck in a collision and have to work @ home for now… So pretty much no other way is an option. But thanks for info.

Stop YELLING … you’re hurting my ears.

Don't your firends like you?

Sorry Stone.

Please forgive me!

Some did.

It all started when I was robbing banks but before I met Johnny.

That’s much better.  Thank you …

So, your real name is Robin Banks, but Johnny calls you Bodhi?

ps. Doerner was the real hero.

Well, I was born in Bellaire, TX in 1952.  But I went to Waltrip High School and lived in the Oak Forest area of Houston.

Galveston to Surfside was my regular section of coast.

My real name was Patrick.

I like to kick back in the evenings on my 200$ laptop and plot my next build on my free AKU shaper(CAD program) while eating dinner and what not. Then I’ll print out the file onto 20 cents worth of paper using my 50$ printer.I then spray adhesive the printed outlines and profiles to an 8$ sheet of masonite and cut them with a skillsaw.I then stick the profile templates to my 10$ block of foam and hotwire my blank using a 5$ hotwire powered by a 50$ variac.Once I cut my outline I clean up the blank a bit and cut the railbands and turn the rails, shapeany bottom contours etc.I dont use a planer,I dont need it,mine just sits on the shelf next  to my belt sander that rarely gets used.If your using battens and rulers to do your outlines why bother with cardboard, just lay the curves out on your blank. You must have tiny fingers to be able to type so much on a blackburry.

No just practice-Jesus… The blackberry just takes practice. Lol. But ya I might try that? Board cad is out-no car and library is too far.

Roger that Stoneburner....or Bodhi.... or Patrick. Wait, I'm still confused.............

Who's Roger again?????

ps. Jesus, Where did you find a Variac for only $50.00?

Hi tblank, its right herehttp://www.circuitspecialists.com/prod.itml/icOid/7674 .It’s a smaller version of the red ones but I still only have to turn it up to 10-15 to cut a blank so it is capable of producing more than enough juice.Buying it was a gamble because I had no clu if it would be big enough,I had only used the larger red version before.

Muchisimas Gracias Jesus. It's the best deal I have seen.

Your welcome, cutting the foam is one of my favorite parts of the process.A custom blank every time hahaha.
