Hot Coat and Sanding Issues

After I finished the glassing I threw down a little sanding resin over some rough spots to help with sanding and then I did the actual hot coat.  I finished the hot coat and I sanded down a little to much in some spots and the cloth is showing a little bit.   I plan on doing a gloss coat eventually.    Should I throw down a second hot coat or should I put a gloss coat over it?    Do I have to sand down ever little bit of the hot coat to ensure that the second coat will stick?

If the weave is exposed at the surface, you can do some spot patches of hot coat. But, when you sand those patches be very careful, as you may sand through the surrounding areas.

Yes, you have to sand the entire hot coat. Sanding resin contains wax. That’s why you can sand it. Resin does not stick to wax. Adding another coat on top of an unsanded hotcoat is asking for chips and peeling to occur. Hot coats are also called “sanding coats”. Guess why?
