This is a question I would like to pose to anyone with more glassing experience than myself (almost everyone). I just hot coated a windsurfer I am building but through whatever brain fade I was experiencing neglected to add the surfacing agent. I ended up just putting on an additional proper hot coat as thinly as I possibly could which will end up being removed by sanding. Afterwards I wondered if i could have just put a very thin, fine layer of styrene wax over the laminating resin i used for hot coating before it kicked, perhaps with a misting spray bottle or some similar device. Has anyone ever tried this or happen to know for sure whether it would or would not have worked. thanks for any info in advance.
I have had this happen years ago. Here are two solutions. You should re hot coat hot the board. Add extra surfacing agent over the recommended to help thin the resin. The temp at hot coating should be from 70-80F. If it is lower than 70F the wax will not rise as well to the top to seal the board. What you want to do is seal the board from air. You can also spray the area with a product like (PVA) Partall Film # 10 to seal the board for sanding.
