Hot coating in 50-60degs.

I plan on hot coating this weekend, the temps will be somethere between 55 to 62 degs. Will this be sufficient for the hot coats? Most likely will not have any more 70+ deg days. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

Make sure your resin’s warm,& the wax additive too,if it’s not already added. In cold conditions the wax solution will get parafin chunks in it,and need to be filtered. If outside, take advantage of any sunshine.Put a little extra mekp maybe. If it’s 60 out,not too bad;50 is gettin’ kinda iffy, but probably doable.

i hot coated in 50 deg. weather today. no problem. just add a little more catalyst.

don’t drop the acetone into the electric heater… the historic episode in the old haut shop… Bill Hickey experimented with oven warming when I was young and easily impressed…then I also used excessive quantities of catalyst on cold Pedro nights…I then moved to a tropical temperatature… remember the flamable and yes explosive repercussions of this here stuff keep our collective accident statistic off the radar … i.e. please dont blow up …ambrose’s fantastic reverie

Just add a little more catalyst. I hot coated here in S. Jersey last weekend and it was about 60 degrees. No problems, in fact it was best hot coat I have ever done. Good luck; Frank

I glass/hotcoat/polish up in the PacNW year around. At times we get down in the 30-40 but mostly in the 50ish range in the winter. The most important thing to do is make sure that the sanding agent (Styrene/Wax additive) is at least warm. If your resin is a bit chilled you can still get by. Make sure the you really mix your resin well. Don’t overkill with your catlyst, this will make your hotcoat potentially brittle. Add just 3-5cc’s extra. Be patient too, it will take awhile for it to go off. You can also take a hairdrier and slightly warm the board too. Have fun and don’t forget the organic respirator!!
