Hot Curls in Foam

I was wondering with all the interest in finless boards has anyone been looking into shaping a  foam hot curl? read past posts from a few years back and Velzy did a few but got the impression they were wall hangers ,  however nothing recently .Anyone had any experience or thoughts on this matter ?

cheers

did a few 8 fters in solid balsa last year.......i think they would be far too light in foam.....

Carl Olsen has done hot curls from foam, maybe Gene would use one of his tow weight blanks to do a hot curl.

I talked with Colin Herlihy about doing him a new balsa for the North shore, only this time my plan is to use a more modern rocker for the nose and leave the tail alone.

The originals were carved from nearly flat planks. leaving verly little in the way of actual rocker, in large surf the entire rail line is in the water forcing the rider to stand on the end of the tail. That makes for some bumpy rides as the board bounces up and down.

Search for Colin Herlihy/transworld interview  nice piece with him on the north shore

In this vid…there are some shots of him on hotcurls that Jim Phillips made 6 or 7 years ago…

I couldnt find the interview…

[/quote] G'day Jim....the blanks I made  were  8ft by 19" and 2 1/2" thick with a small amount of natural rocker from the logs. They done the rounds of the young  'finless' crew of surfers here and they were pretty stoked with riding them......they were foiled a bit different to the traditional hotcurls , but still had the essential elements...

Renny Yater has built a couple with Kevin Ancell making them look like wood.

I’ve also seen, and posted here, several of Gary Young’s foam cored, wood skined hot curls
