Hotcoat didn't kick and basically ran off and exposed some weave!!!!

Do you guys know if i can simply just re-coat the deck with surfacing again with a hotter catalist mix or do i ‘have’ to sand. what would happen if i didn’t sand, cause time is a issue here…thanks!!!

Howzit SLP, sorry but you’ll have to sand that Hot coat before doing another one. The wax in the 2nd hot coat won’t adhere to the 1st coat without sanding.Aloha, Kokua

So just a light quicky handsand with 120 will do and blow off with airnozzle??Thanks again!!!

that should do, just dont miss any. you might go through a lot of 120 if it’s gummy.

wait a minute, you said the hotcoat didn’t kick. if it hasn’t gone off, shoot a hot batch over it. if it did go off, disregard this post and do as the previous posts say. good luck!

Thanks guys!!! It actually did kick but it took like a couple of hours and ran off the deck nose and kicked tail, but the middle is ok. That was odd being i brushed it on good and thick!!! There was high humidity and fog that day maybe a problem ??? Anyway I’m gonna cook the hotcoated board in the 75 degree sun today hopefully…thanks again it’s cured enough to handle w/wax paper and the bottom kicked properly. Hey at least it didn’t kick too soon!!! another nightmare we have all probably confronted…

Ya, #2 full glass job. 10’10" longboard gunny. 2 layers of #6 glass on the deck 3/4 of the way through the resin kicked. My 12 year old daughter heard words that she had never heard before. What a mess. live and learn.
