The surge itself will probably inundate tens of thousands of homes tonight. The hurricane winds will be whipping the 4 million people and 60 billion trees in the area at about 3-4 in the morning. The wind field is much bigger than the average cat 3 storm and the surge from it all is coming straight at us into the bay and up the channel.
Take care, bro. You may dodge a bullet yet. Hope for the best. We’re praying for you.
You mean those homes that people live on thin barrier islands two feet above sea level?
Here’s a thought…why dont people just stop building homes on thin low barrier islands that are easily prone to storm flooding? Wouldnt that natural beach space be better suited for turtle nests or something? I mean call me crazy.
I have never in my entire life lived RIGHT ON the beach.
So it must be that my entire life is ruined.
I have lived on the beach most of my life. Two Hurricans too many and I sold and moved to the country. Only to get it worse by five storms in one year. You just never know.
Been thru four hurricanes in the last four years…the last one Wilma, the eye went right over my house. The winds went from hurricane force to dead calm in minutes. So there we were in the EYE OF THE STORM…LITERALLY.
So there we were in the eye. No wind, blue bird skies. Me and my neighbors were outside taking it all in. It was very cool. Then about one hour later, the hurricane force winds came in the opposite direction and we went back inside. Again, very cool.
Yet the media was hysterical telling us were all going to die if we dont go into out hurricane bunkers, just before the Home Depot commercial.
Its a good thing I saw that commercial. I lost a whopping 10 roof shingles in four hurricanes. Which I fixed myself in a couple of hours about 6 months later.
I wish no one harm. I hope everyone is safe. But I have very little sympathy for residential structures being built in obvious flood zones and sold for a mint because they are RIGHT ON THE BEACH.
BACK ON TOPIC…
Of all the people I expected to run into today in the surf, the last I would expect was Shawn Tompson. But there he was, just paddled right pass me with the Instinct sticker on his board. Too weird.
I work on pushboats that work around Houston. Right now we’re tied up in Channelview, northern edge of Galveston Bay weathering it out. It’s not as bad as they made it out to be…the captain made it out like we were all going to die…the news is making it out like we’re all going to die…i mean…it’s windy, off and on rain, but nothing within my eyesight has been annihilated yet…lol…the storm surge here’s about 5 ft. and dropping now because the north winds blowing it out…it’s going to get worse through the night…but…we’ll see how it goes…
Thanks for the info Adam. Just checked the buoy again winds are still 50-70MPH. Not even hurricane force. The winds will likely pick up but it sounds like youre in a good spot. You should be fine. Good luck.
Stupid buncha bastards, eh? If they were smart, they’d all live in inland Florida, eh?
You got it ass backwards. Inland FL has the dumbest people on earth. The scariest part is that we vote.
Pretty invested in it this evening eh, Davey?
Well here’s the scoop J. Today me an my bud drove from the west coast to the east coast, about a three hour drive. In order to stay awake, co-pilot and lookout for dumbass inland Floridian citrus truck drivers , I drank WAY too much coffee during the trip. So now Im all jacked up and ready to whoop some Ike ass.
Did I mention I surfed with Shawn Tompson today? I saw him paddle for a wave and wipeout. Shit, the world IS coming to an end!
