How big will Rhode Island get????

Calling for 15 to 33 foot south swell ahead of the storm on Saturday.

Sorry to make light of what could be a really bad weekend for many of us…me included.

The worst part of this storm is the timing in relation to the tide cycle.  Saturday and Sunday evening’s high tides are a couple of the highest of the year here due to the moon phaze.  The street in front of my house would flood this Saturday and Sunday at high tide even if there were no storm.

My wife’s been wanting a new house…better go check my insurance policy.

Where did you find that info? I do not trust any of the so-called surf forecasting websites. They never get it right when it comes to the EC.

I go straight to the source. The NWS and FNMOC.

Here’s the Navy’s forecast for 8 am on Saturday.

Not even 10 ft.

I’m laughing at this thread now

Well, a gun is something that can be handy in certain situations. It would collect a lot of dust in between uses, but there are times when it’s a good call.

This is the North end of the EC. Location witheld.

hahah im sorry i posted to not have a gun now, expect about 8ft-12 ft, double overhead. most beaches wont be able to handle it here and it will be death tubes of glory. hopeful the tides will not be to annoying, maybe a little window will apear, but friday, saturday, monday will most likely be fun, sunday will be havoc. enjoy your waves i know i will in jersey

Whole thread was ment to be light hearted.  The models last night showed the waves near the eye of the storm to be approaching 35 feet as the eye went headlong into Rhode Island.  Its changed a bit now as the storm is tracking closer to land.  Its looking like those of us who live on barrier islands from Hatteras to Cape Cod are totally f-ed.  Surfing is the last thing on my mind right now.  I'll be thrilled if I get to surf.  Right now I'm thinking more about evacuating my family and getting my boat and essentials to high ground.

The reports have been crazy so far for NJ I know at least. Today it said 1-3 but almost every set was head high. I think they are underestamating the storm in same aspects.

that’s a solid wave SammyA…

I hope everyone is safe over there.

Hopefully the models are going to be off a bit and this won't be as bad as it looks. Five days ago the same models had the storm coming into the Keys and straight up the middle of the Florida peninsula. So let's pray for a track that gets it off the coast.

You still have to prepare for what's forecast. You're right that surfing isn't the most important thing at this moment. If your place is very prone to coastal flooding, get the h out of Dodge. Go with your family, you're a lot better off sticking together if you're going to be away for a few days. Just dealing with the traffic is more than a one-parent job. Turn off your electricity and water, etc, grab your most important personal stuff and go.

Passing by less than 150 miles out from us....

Its a shame the New York ASP contest didnt coincide with this macker.

An ASP contest in New York is like getting Chili from New York City.

Howzit mako, From what I have seen about this hurricane it lookslike it will be to close to shore if it doesn't do a direct hit on you guys. That means the winds are going to be insane and the ocean will probably be a mess. Will they even let you in the water or stay at your house during the storm. I have been through a couple of them in Hawaii and the last thing we thought about was surfing but the day after has always been epic. Good luck and keep safe since your life is much more important than a surf session. Aloha,Kokua

Exactly. The last direct hit in the area was Bob in August 1991. We got one day of semi-clean, warbly surf in the head plus range the day after.

The unfortunate side of this week was a cold front sweeping through the EC over the last couple of days. So, any swell arriving well ahead of Irene has been chopped up by strong onshore flow. In fact, no forerunners from Irene have even reached the LI and New England area, as of this am.

VA Beach buoy just began to register forerunners around 1am this morning.

my brother in VA beach was out early this afternoon, said it was slightly overhead and clean, but they’re about to get nailed, he said they are stayin put, i guess its not being evacuated where he is in chesapeake? I’m in CT and was gonna head over to check my favorite RI spots after a funeral tomorrow, guess I’ll keep an eye on it.  if it’s bad and you’re stuck in it, i wish you luck!

You’ll be about a day late. The wind held off for most of today and by late afternoon it was head high at South facing spots. Not a bad day, considering last night’s forecast looked bad. Winds will be onshore tomorrow. Already turned South.

aah, dammit! Well I still might go and see what’s shapin up,  heightened sense of awareness from impending disaster and watch the fury intensify. From chesapeake he said bunchacrap, aint no hairikin, good storm at best.

For a short time yesterday at low tide my favorite break was like Snapper Rocks.
