How Do I Know If My Bolt Was Shaped By Gerry?

Im sure if i asked him he would probably say i have a great piece of surf history and sign it for me..with a smile...hes done it before..but my question is...with all the "gerry lopez models" out there ..how do you know one is a personal hand shape by the master himself? if anyone knows plz enlighten me..here is a pic of sig on a board i was wondering about...thx guys!

if thats really his signature then he shaped it

seems like an odd place to sign

maybe try to look him up on the net and send him the pics

is there a # on the board?

usualy the signature is by the #

thx for response, from what i know he signed LOPEZ on stringer on some boards..this one doesnt have it...others he didnt...but i know theres alot of lopez '"models" where someone ghost shapes and signs his sig or lams his sig...i dunno which this is..maybe it was a style sig at a certain time? no serial # and its def hand written ink..thx.

Hey Glenn

Should wait 'till master B.Barnfiels chims in .. He should know best.

It is hard to answer your question without seeing more of the board.  The guys that glassed a lot of the Bolt Boards, were dispersed around the island.  And often weren’t near where the actual shaping was done.  Generally, those inked signatures under the gloss coat were done by the glasser.  I always had my own glass shop so my signature in ink, was actually done on the board by me.

Usually the Shaper’s signature was penciled into the foam.  But even that was no guarantee that the board wasn’t ghost shaped and signed by someone else.  Gerry did shape a lot of boards though.  So his originals do exist.

Gerry is an excellent craftsman.  His boards were very accurate, precise and symmetrical.  And they worked!

If you want to know for sure about your board.  Send Gerry an email with photos and ask him… gerrylopez@bendbroadband.com  Tell him I said Aloha!

thx for the help..big time..im sending pics to gerry too, but if somthing jumps out at you id love your opinions as well..thx again. Glenn
