I know this question was asked before, but I can’t find the answer. How does one go about making laminates at home that are NOT see through. The ones I make now look great when glassed, but you can see the stringer right through them. Any advice?
i’ve been experimenting with screening a white acrylic or silkscreen ink over the back of the laminate paper, when it dries, iron it and print the side with no ink on it. (i’m assuming that you’re home lams are printed on your computer printer). anyway, i’ve had mixed results so far, most being good.
Mike, I assume by “laminates” you’re talking about printed logos and artwork. You make them opaque by painting their backs before laminating them into the glass. So you print the image on “rice paper”, dry it, turn it over, and paint the back with spray enamel or water acrylic in whatever background color you want. Then you cut out the image, and laminate it into your glass job.
Howzit Noodle, That’s how I do it too. Aloha, Kokua
Thanks for the anwers. I’ll do it. I always wanted to try to put one of those Bob’s Big Boys cartoons on a surfboard, since I am starting to resemble him. Well, not really, but I do eat a lot of burgers.
