How far up is too far for twin fins ( not keels )??

Hey all, i have a 2+1 diamond tail. At the moment im not that happy with the centre fin for it ( too longboardy ), and while i wait for more plugs to convert it to a qaud, im thinking of trying it as a twin fin. However the side fins are 12’’ up from the tail ( back of the fin ) and im wondering if that’s too far forward???. Roughly whereabouts are fins placed from the tail on most twin fins ( not keels )??.

Hi. Try this link. It’ll give you some good pointers

Thanks mate, looks like they;re a little too far forward. Hope it goes better with another set of rail fins!!. I’ll probably still try it, nothing to lose really.

Maybe you could just try with a pair of modifyed fcs keels. Could be interresting.

Hey Beerfan,

If you go with twin fins, you may want to think about adding a small center trailer. Still get something of the twin speed and looseness, just less of the tail slide and squirrel factor. Trueames makes one called the Smallbox that can be ordered pretty damn tiny. Perhaps you can find a similar fin over there…?

Smallbox

Mark,

For my liking somewhere around 9" up would be where I’d place a twin. In the past I’ve usually placed the fin on the board, moving them around to different locations to see where it looks pleasing to the eye. Another option would be to put regular sized thruster or twin fins where the plugs are and use a smaller trailer like someone mentioned before. I know a guy who rides a 9’0" Randy French Surftech with just the MR Twins and loves it. Seems like the rule of thumb is that keels go a little farther back than twins, but cooyou probably already knew that.
