How is this done?? It's driving me crazy thinking about it?
I had to attach the image, I'm having trouble including it. It's an orange and brown Mccallum surfboard with a sanded faux looking resin tint.

http://www2.swaylocks.com/forums/how-and-what-beautiful-resin-tint lets get the hipster conversation going again, just for kicks and giggles…
Orange opaque glass job.
Brown Hot coat.
Purposely sand through hot coat.
ive been wondering about this too
So after you do the sand through on the brown hotcoat, would you do another coat before the gloss coat or just the gloss coat?
Yep.
Some Hot-coat a second time.
Some don’t.
Nice…cool shape, colors are cool as well. Only thing that breaks it (IMO) is glassing currency into the board. Nothing better than thinking about money when you’re out in the surf. As if we don’t think about money enough, we have to lam it into our craft. (The all-seeing eye & the pryamid on the $1 note–an artist’s take on that would be interesting on a board…just gave me idea! Thanks!)
EDIT: if the money is glassed-in. Looks like it is. My bad if it’s just laying on top.
VAESKE - not sure if your response was tongue in cheek. didn’t see any emoticons or lol’s. check out surfding’s artistic take on the all-seeing eye

love your work btw. even the workspace seems like art.

Thanks jdaloha…yeah, just thinking aloud, and I do remember seeing that pic of Surfding’s board; I didn’t catch the “all-seeing-eye” artwork the first time. -Now that is solid. More my taste I guess. Real money in boards hasn’t swayed me yet.
Stone washed jeans....in the 80's..........I'm guilty
Thanks Barry! The rails look like they have a resin pin line, is that just from the sand thru because the weave sits higher there?
haha and I’m not a hipster!!!
Ive heard some guys mix half clear filler and then half pigmented filler. catalyse both then pour colour into clear filler then brush.
Tastes and colors are personal, of course. MY opinion is that it would be difficult to make a board look worse… maybe add to that purposely made free laps with tint… Oh man, how can one do that to a board?
And to think of all those guys who go crazy at such “artwork”. Of course, it will sell since it’s ugly.
Those longboards are definitely Abercrombie & Fitch. Gotta be careful when you go the deconstruct route. Reminds me of antiquing walls in newly built homes.
But the orange/fire & brown combo, I kinda like that look…from a distance.
My idea is to do a texalium deck patch and make it look like rust. Just wanna do something a bit different. I’m not a huge fan of those longboards, except for the one on the left the green really pops. Thanks for all your help and comments.
I like 'em.
especially the first pic
I’m getting my next board done in one of these “slob jobs”
I like it
mccallum’s boards look neato. see a bunch here - http://www.iphoneogram.com/u/153832
I realize that fashions come and go.
As an artist, it is my job to at least pay attention to trends.
Come look good, some don’t.
As an airbrush artist, I’ve seen very rough hand-painted or the like come and go.
I’ve been doing this professionally for 30 years.
So many have been recycled a couple times.
Maybe I’m just getting old.
Things seem to go ugly before the clean look comes back.
I just have a hard time putting out a board that looks like my skilled workers aren’t.
Then again,
I never got the whole skinny jeans and handlebar mustache thing.
That look is sorta a stolen bike with a bad cover-up paint job.
Barry, I couldn’t agree more.
Make me the nicest, prettiest board you can.
Now, wreck it.
Gee, thanks.
