clark blank - $50 to $60

homemade fins?-almost nothing
paint,pigment, sand paper- 10 to$15?
beer- $5.99 or whatever is on sale

The stoke from riding your own board- PRICELESS
eps blank about $ 20
resin about $ 90… seems like i end up usin half of it cuz of screw ups
FF boxes $5-6 each
6 oz s cloth $6 yard
if i add it up, seems like it should cost a lot less than it actually does. lam and re -lam, etc etc. they seem to be runnin up to $ 300 each. doesn’t seem possible, but that’s what its been costing. that includes sand paper, and misc. supplies
You and I are right on the money with epoxy construction (see my above post) but where the hell do you get a $20 EPS blank from?!? is it a super secret? or is it homedepot foam?
Hey there
Hollow wooden,
depending on timber type between £20-£50 for wood. £15 per 5 kg poly resin (I used just over 3 kg on the last board, and sanded most of that away I think), £10 for aprox 10 meters of “heavy” cloth. so cheap is £45 better is £75 or there abouts. Not sure what that converts into in proper money.

That seems like too much for epoxy. It takes about $40
in Resin Research epoxy to lam an 8 foot gun with double six top and double four bottom. A shortie would be under $30 in resin costs.
The “standard” shortboard around here costs about $100 in consumable parts.
$45 for the blank
$25 for the fin system
$10 for poly resin, $19 for glass
$1 for the leash plug
its $90 roughly for a 1 1/2 gallon set of epoxy from surfsource.net . you have to account for lam and hotcoat. and yes, I did have some resin and hardener left over which I used on 3 foam skim boards.
blank: $50.00
Resin: $40.00 (epoxy)
Cloth: $25.00
Fins/Box: $60.00 (Lokbox with Merrick fins)
Misc. Materials:$10.00
$185.00
Making a board that is stronger and costs much much less than your neighborhood clothing store
(…err I mean surf shop), priceless!
It would cost more if I got a tail pad. I’m considering those probox fins now. but overall not bad for me.
Rio
hey scott… i buy a 4x8 sheet of 1" and of 2" and glue them together in a rocker. i use epoxy and either strips of s cloth or carbon near the perimeter of the outline.
hey blakestah, when you do your epoxy boards do you hot and/ or gloss with poly or just go epoxy all the way ? And do you use eps ?
for meeeee?
about $40 for a short blank
$30 - 1 gal resin
$30 - 6 yds 6 or 4oz glass
$.80 leash plug
fins…price varies
then about $6-7 misc building stuff
my prices are with a rough employee discount from fiberglass hawaii here in SB though.

The last board was done by my shaper, it was polyU under the glass and was a clear and sanded finish. You cannot tell it from a clear and sanded polyester resin board.
Rasche at M10 makes most of his boards with EPS, spackle-sealed, and clear and sanded with RR epoxy.
Well, I think that we get gouged a bit over here in France, but I haven’t been back price shopping in California lately either.
For the 9’2" I shaped today, it’ll go something like this: (Remember these prices are in Euros, I don’t even want to contemplate multiplying them by 1.3 to get a dollar figure!)
Clark blank with 2" balsa stringer 205 (love that 19.6% sales tax)
FCS center box 8
Fluid Foils fin 38 (that’s my distributor cost, retail is 72)
Leash plug 0, I’ll put a hole through the box
Glassing 210 in materials and workshop fees, my labor not included
Paint 14
So, this one goes out the door with around 460 in materials. A ‘standard’ longboard with a base 9’5" Y or similar blank and a sanded finish is more in the 300 to 350 range, the balsa stringer set me back about a hundred euros extra for this order. One can do it a bit cheaper using locally made blanks as well, maybe cutting 20 euros off the price.
Good shaping!
…blank: $58 -$62 from 7 6 -down
more $ 7 6 -up
…cloth: $1.82 yard aerialite 4 0z
…resin: $ 3.50 per kilo
…if i go with fcs type : $14 tri fin set with plugs
hey blakestah,
where are you getting resin at that price…fiberglass hawaii?
melbourne, fl:

total 134.00
everything here is at the “retail to the public prices”… no discounts…rounded off by guesstimation…use the fins from a board i’m not riding anymore. if i sell a board, i sell it without fins.
Howzit reverb, That’s some cheap prices for resin and FCS. As a manufacturer I pay $25.00 for a thruster set with plugs and fins and resin is about $27.00 a Gal. Where are you buying from to get those prices.Aloha,Kokua
