I have had some pressure ding problems with my 2 previous boards. On those I used on both 6 oz glass on the bottom and 2layers of 4 oz. on the deck. I just glassed anther board and someone told me to try putting an additional 4 oz deck patch along with the other 2 4oz layers on the deck (to prevent the cracking and dings). So in a nutshell, I’ve got a 5’11" board with 6 oz on the bottom and 3 layer of 4 oz cloth on the deck (one of those layers being a deck patch). I’m just experimenting here and I was just wondering if this was the way anyone else did it. (not many shapers in Miami, FL you know…) Thank you.
what you’re doing with your layers is fine…are you consciously not taking too much off your decks when you shape? you could be getting into soft foam pretty quick, particularly if using the lighter density blanks. this makes 3 people shaping down here, that i know of anyways (not many shapers in Miami, FL you know…) Thank you.

Thanks for your response. I try not to take too much off the top.How much is too much off the top? I use the blanks at Glue products…the green or blue clark foam.
well, the green and blue are the denser of the commonly used blanks. my approach is to try to do as much of the thickness adjustment that is necessary from the bottom (keeping true to your desired rocker, of course). my general aim is that i don’t want to remove much more than the ‘skin’ and whatever sanding will be required from the deck. particularly the areas that will typically have your feet, knees, etc. compressing on them. i’d say this works out to about 1/8".>>> Thanks for your response.
