First board ready for glassing (fish). What would you guys do for a color/design? How intricate? Bottom plain with pigment deck? Pinstripe around? Airbrush Bob Marley??? Resin tint? What would be the best for a newbie without ruining it? How about the Airbrusing 101 video? John’s shaping DVD was great.
I’ll agree with Lee, it’s all about how the board performs in the water, not how good it looks to whatever flounders are swimming around under it. I’d also suggest a look at the New Discouraged Shaper/Glasser :(( Kinda depressed thread - this might be a problem that came directly from paint and graphics, at least in part.
Now, as this is your first board, why make life more difficult and complex than it has to be…yet. What’s the matter with the classic clear glassed board, with
Boondockbill #1
pencilled in by the stringer. For a little more pizazz, add the date and the dimensions. With any luck there will be plenty of time and plenty of other boards to scratch that graphics itch, once you’re real comfortable with all the other stuff involved.
Besides which, while a graphic or color job can look great, one that doesn’t look good really looks bad , you know? Like you asked

Plain, man, plain. Do the best laminating, hotcoating and glossing job you can and worry about the graphics on a later board or boards.
