I want to make sure the entire blank is the same color and that you cannot see the stringer. What’s the best way to hide the stringer? Is there a certain type of paint that hides the texture of the stringer? Do I just use spackle? Do I apply a layer of resin + pigment on the blank (or just the stringer) before glassing? I want to paint the blank before glassing. EPS blank. Thanks for the help!
Use a stringerless blank
My thoughts exactly.
Unless you do an opaque glass job, no matter what you do.
It will show.
Both are different textures.
Too late for that. I’m recycling a soft top surboard. I stripped it down to the blank. The blank has two “stringers” going through the board. But they are not regular stringers since they do not consistenly go through the entire board (deck to bottom). As you get closer to the nose and tail, where it’s thinner, the stringer show up.
cover the stringer with fine pen work
like sergio argones filled
the margins of mad magazine
…ambrose…
pigment the board white first
so it looks like a boat from the
thai navy…
Glass and hotcoat as usual (clear) then spray the board with paint and cover with a another thin hotcoat or gloss coat.
It will all be one solid color and you will not see the stringers.
Im not a big epoxy guy so someone else may have to give you the do’s and dont’s on what types of paint work the best on epoxy.
if you use at least 2 layer of glass and heaps of pigment, you can get a truly opaque colored lamination where you will not see the stringer
Solid pigmented gloss coat should do the trick.
