HOW DO I MAKE MY OWN BALSA BLANKS? FOR STRINGER PLACEMENT I GUESS YOU JUST CUT AND GLUE ACCORDING TO WHAT YOU WANT? WHAT KIND OF GLUE? DO YOU CUT THE ROCKER INTO THE BLANK OR DO YOU WARP THE BLANK?
First step is to not type in all caps, and then you should wait for someone to respond who knows how to do what you’re asking.
Well, let’s see…
First you’ll need balsa, and something for stringers. Good balsa is a little hard to find, how bad do you want to do this?
You’ll nee to resaw some redwood or whatever for the stringers, more outside work = money.
Rocker is created to your spec by scarfing the balsa and gluing it all up. You don’t warp anything.
Glue can be plain old “white glue”, carpenter’s glue, aliphatic resin glue. Don’t use a lot if you want to take the rough shaped blank apart later and chamber it. Hmm, chambering… more outside work with a forstner bit, maybe a drill press.
Balsa needs special glassing technique, search the archives. All in all, it’s a heckuva lotta work, and much more expensive, than any beginner should consider, and by your questions you have no idea of the process. That’s okay, we all start somewhere, but having shaped and glassed my own for 30 years I still have no urge to do balsa.
