How to post a picture?

OK you guys I know how to post a picture in the resource section but how do I posy one in a thread? In the past I’ve tried it but it doesn’t work. Would be nice not to have to wait til Mike does his thing. Aloha, Kokua

yeah, i wanna learn too. to post fin draws.

this forum works a bit differently from some other ones and doesn’t allow you to post an image that you may have saved on your hard drive. Instead it allows you to link to an image on a web page only. so use your browser (ie explorer or whatever) to bring up the web page which has the image you want. on macintosh: - hold ctr key and click on image - select “open image in new window” on linux - right click on image - select “view image” on windows - right click? - ??? in either situation the image on the page will be displayed on its own in your browser. using another window on your browser you are going to need the swaylocks page open to post a message. for this example I am going to post an image found on the swaylocks home page (so I have “http://www.swaylocks.com/cgi-bin/discussion/index.cgi?form=48410” at the URL part at the top of this window which I am actually typing in.) in my other window I have “http://www.swaylocks.com/” I am now going to post the image of the word “Swaylocks” on this page. I have performed the above steps (for macintosh) and now have a window which has just the Swaylock image. looking at the URL it is: http://www.swaylocks.com/includes/headers/images/logo_bottom.jpg so I now 1. copy tis into the box saying “Optional Image URL” in my swaylocks post response window. don’t double up on the “http://” which is already there as a hint 2. click Preview Message button 3. if you can see your message and pic then all is well, doing step 2. avoids the sort of posts which go “sorry about that, I’ll have another go at posting the image”. 4. scroll down to bottom of page and click the Post Message button

  1. Assuming it’s a photo you have scanned, it needs to be in a server space that can be easily accessed (as opposed to just on your machine). I have x megabytes of free space that is alloted to me at my service provider, so I put my image or images there. Remember to keep the file size reasonably small so that it loads onto a computer with a dail-up connection at a reasonably fast speed. The scanned file should always be sized to 72 ppi (pixels per inch) and saved as a jpg (typically - photos) or a gif (typically for text and images with minimal tonal gradation). 2. Now that is in that web server space (say, for instance, in the case of kokua “http://www.fictcioushanaleiwebspace.com/~kokuaspicturefolder/imagesforswaylocks/imagehewantstoshowus.jpg-or-gif”) you copy that address starting with “www” and… 3. paste it after the “http://…” that is located down the message page a little under the heading “optional image URL:” 4. posting more than one image at a time is something I haven’t figured out.

yeah, but how do - doc - in the - a question about electric planer design for experts - and different kent in - no curves - threads ?? is not url´s…

the no curves walden pic is a URL, why don’t you use this thread as a practise and go to differentken’s thread and right click or ctrl click or whatever on the image and try and open it in a new window, then copy the URL which should read: http://www.waldensurfboards.com/assets/images/Stealth.jpg you can see that the image is actually located on waldensurfboards website and not someting on swaylocks server space just as a starter try copying the above URL into the Optional Image URL box and see if it appears. no one is going to mind the “dammit what happened?” posts on this thread.

Not hard to do but you have to upload or FTP your Photos to a “storage site” so you can link to them. Are there any convenient sites that will let us store our photos for free so we can link to them? Ebay works this way and they provide space for one photo per sale. My provider does not allot me storage (cable access) So…does anyone know of a spot?? Then you just link to them like any other web page in the “link” line of your post. Mike

http://www.villagephotos.com gives you free storage.

Am trying this out with Jeff’s new Parmenter…

I can’t figure any of this stuff out.Guess I’ll go buy some envelopes and stamps. R.B

John Mellor, i don´t understand how do you directly post the picture…in the explanation to use the www.village , say that the only thing that appear is the link not the photo

Another good free space is MSN groups, you get 30 megs of free space to do what you like, l’m using it for my photos and shaping info, there is a lot of other good sites amoungst the groups and you dont get spamed. It takes a little while to get used to the format but once you do there is about 5,000,000 world wide personal sites covering everything from illnesses to the good stuff. Worth a look. Just follow my URL KR http://groups.msn.com/MyKRSurf/krcomweb.msnw
