How to repair this Bing noserider well?

Hey guys,

My experience with polyester is very limited, or with repairs.

What is the best way to repair this damage?

Do you guys leave most of the old fibres?

Do you fill with a mixture of Q-cell, then tinted lam with glassfibre [preferably Volan i guess, which i dont have], then do a clear gloss?

Friend told me to fill with cut up glass fibres with color first, sand down. Then do a clear lam /HC gloss on top?

Thanks for any insights!

Hi Wouter -

Those dings look like they can be fixed pretty easy:

1. Carefully sand away any loose material and scuff about 1" around the ding with coarse sandpaper.  No need for major surgery but watch for extensions of any little cracks.  Sand beyond any damage you find.

2. Fill with pigmented-to-match putty or bog.

3. Sand just below flush.

4. Clear lamination and fill coat.

5. Feather around edges and sand smooth.

6. Gloss so all scuffed areas are covered.

7. Wet/dry and buff.

I’d do it the way John said. Looks like straight blue will work to me to get the color match. Maybe atomized or kokua or somebody with a better eye for color will know better.
