How to repair this S***t?

Hi Guys,

A good friend of mine got his board hit by a longboard the other day.

He asked me if a repair was possible and how much it would cost to repair it…

Because I don’t know if a repair is worth the money nor I know how to repair it the right way, I am asking you guys, what would you do? Would it cost too much to repair this board vs buying a new one?

Thank you!!

Jean G.

Hi

did the slice go right the way through to the bottom as well, or just part way through the deck?

It didn’t go through the bottom, “just” down to the rail apex…

If you live on oahu I can fix it under warrenty. It is worth fixing.

Would be a great repair thread, if you could take the time.

All the best

If it were mine and I lived on Oahu I’d lett BB30 fix it.    He’s an expert with cork and you probably won’t be able to tell anything happened when he got done with it.

Agreed.

I would like to see a bb30 repair thread.

Hahah Yeah I wish I was living on Oahu guys but I am not, I am in the bay area…

So… Can anyone here virtualy takes me by the hand and explain how to fix it so I can create a thread for this and  some of us can learn something from it? That would be great!

Jean

ugh, that hurts to see! such a gorgeous board.

what’s the lost warranty situation bb30 speaks of? does it apply to mainland U.S.? i’d look into that.

bb30, did you lam that one? aren’t a lot of those boards lam’d by drewtang or inspiredshaper or whomever in florida? sorry. that’s a lot of questions lol

i’m still in pain looking at that gash.

stretch does cork. Not sure if his shop does repairs.

The warranty I speak of is I am the corecork guy on oahu. I do repairs on cork boards. Have only ever done one which was a keep the customer satisfied situation. The boards Drew Baggett makes are super nice. Totally impressed with the craftsmanship. Made me realize how much of a hack I am also.

5lb density foam 1/2" wide, 1" thick and 6-7" long .  Rout a 1/2" wide and up to 1" deep(if board thickness allows) and however long your repair piece tail to nose through the gash.  The rail will be a small separate repair. I used gorrilla glue to keep weight down for the initial HD foam insert. That last pic I sanded through the cork and into the carbon fiber deck.  I had three rail gashes to deal with so my sanded are is large. Your sanded area could be a “t” shape from rail through gash and over the area  of the high density foam and 1-2" on each sisde of gash and HD foam insert. You will be replacing cf cloth and cork in the sanded area eventually. Try to keep edges straight. I will post the rest later.

thanks for the update bb30.
