Didn’t I read here sometime ago about using used cooffee grounds to try to match a ding repair on a real yellowed board?
as I recall, Doc recommends instant coffee for that “vintage/beater” look…
straight dried granules? They don’t melt very good in resin. Maybe crushing them first?
Tasters Choice, not Folgers or that Mountain Grown stuff. Tasters Choice.
hey Chipster, SANKA for sharing that again…
mix with a dash of acetone - then add to resin
drop by drop. You don’t want to overdo it…
The trick to matching a clear yellowing board is not to make the filler opaque. You want it translucent. Mix up a batch of sand resin and cabosil (should be clear, depending on the cabosil quality). Add in tiny amonts of sil-cell (fumed silica) until you get it a touch cloudy. Add tiny drops of tan opaque pigment + yellow tint until you get a match. Match close to where you’re repairing, the degree of yellowing will vary all over the board.
I used a very tiny amount of cab yellow and an even smaller amount of brown, worked pretty good…
…hey PeteC, fumed sil is aerosil or cabosil already…
