Sweet! Have fun w test ride! I’m picking my quad up tues.

that thing looks killer - see you did like me, layed out for the 5th fin, then decided to forego the option for the time being, haha.  I like that you gave all the dimensions for your quad fin layout.  Glass ons?  Pretty bold move that, what fins did you choose?

after talking to Steve at FGH about wanting a bit more drive for my 8 footer, he sold me some nice composite quads that fit my probox plugs, bigger than my probox fins and very reasonable price ($18!) took it out at the 'bu the other day, very pleased.  Unlike the probox’s, the fronts have a bit of camber (concave), and the rears are neutral foil.

Not glass on’s FCS fusion boxes w/ reinforcement of vector net 227.

Going to go with Probox once I run out of FCS boxes!

Looking forward to ride report, board looks lean and mean, you really rock those double barrels, should work good with the quads.  What density blank?  I’m going to “classic” on my next board, the densest next to “tow-in”.

You know the curse of a new board (no flippin’ surf)!

Momma and I hung out with boy and his Ohana today, he tells me (regarding the surf) “that’s what longboards are for” but no worries, I know my boy, wet it will get. Can’t wait to hear.

This will be interesting!  This is the 3rd LB I’ve made for him. And this is a 180 in what the first two’s shape are.

Think you saw the “super spoon” Yater’s classic only 1" wider and modern updates; we were having issues over the wide tail. And dig this, I finished up polishing his new ride when boy calls from Arroyo Sequint (secret spot) and the SS worked very good and held good in the critical spots and some long ass rides. Great way to retire the poor thing. Oh jezz the photo wasn’t what I was looking for but thought it was? Old eyes, ya know they’re the first to go! So now you know how to start those concaves!!!

I’m using “Red” foam mostly long and short, with the JK project the “solo” US Blank was "green “and the foam ripped just like the red so had to slow down. Why? Cuz the 1st 3 blanks were “Blue” from Millennium and carved just like the old school stuff kinda fun with the new tool  (7.5 amp Skil and I love it) and "runnin’ up and down barefoot of coarse!

Bare in mind my insanity as in putting my test rider on a completely different board and expecting good feedback, we will see. I think the shape and the change from trailers and center fin to quads is enough… HA and NO center box, yeah? For now, the dots are there.

Sorry for the novel,

Aloha

giving away trade secrets now, are we?  The picture answers a question I was gonna ask - are the double barrels all the way through.  From the pic I can now see where they start.  Any single concave up front?  My next 8 footer is planned as mostly all concave, subtle, single-to-double, front to back.  I guess a bit of flat at the transition between the two.

excellent - I’m thinking he’ll be stoked

I noticed a real difference riding a quad for the first time, kinda kooked out a bit first couple waves, but then started to get in the groove.  Of course, with me, it wasn’t just the fins, but the whole board was pretty different from what I had been riding.

My observation, after 3 go-outs and not really spectacular surf, but still quite a few fun little waves, is that it feels remniscent of the old twin-fin experience that I used to enjoy.  For me, with a single, I kinda look for the “sweet spot” on the wave, with the quad it feels like I have more freedom to move around on the wave face.  Turns are tighter radius than the single.

But I don’t have much tri-fin experience to compare it to, unlike your son.

Your glass job looks nice, great job overall, thanks for posting this, looking forward to more

Not really “giving away” anything! Ha LMAO…

That photo might start some crap. Simple, when I started again I was clueless as to Sway’s or Utube, so I just did what made sense to me, fab’d a few tools and plotted my misson. If you like, I’ll PM you with the critical data.

BTW stoked for you! Rip it up old timer! Just two things, My old twins always had a “chin” dent from my knees buckling on hard bottom turns (those bones ain’t what they use to be). And #2 take an extra pump before you do your roundhouse, yeah?

Boy surfed over 3 hrs. Ripper Popz! I 'll take that as success.

On to other stuff.

Aloha

Well, there’s the ride report!  Great feeling, new board gets the waves.  Amazing to me how that kid catches every wave like a vacuum cleaner.  Is he a goofy foot, or switch stance?

I know you have more foam and more resin - looking forward to next episode.

There has been such an over whelming response to “boys new board” I almost missed this!

Regarding single to double concaves, made this “Pig fish” sometime back check it out.

The board works awesome but has only been ridden thruster and in bigger waves than I was thinking…

The board catches waves EZ, just scoots outa the hole and halls ass (test pilots under close observation of coarse).

BTW the 2 prior boards where big disappointments but WTH value still gained.

What really is going on is complex and I’m way into it (ha) a lot more than the quad set ups!

Overwhelming response hahaha!  I dunno, cuz I only mainly build for me, so when u say you’re into this, more than quads, have you tried it?

I don’t have a test pilot, so I’m only interested in what works for this old fart, so far very pleased with my quad, but might try one of them contraptions if u say it works on an old guys board lol.

For Me personally yes, made, rode and got rid of a few boards that were just to radical for this old guy. went big and fat with mild concaves that do not have a single feeding them. And Dustin’s new ride is the same just a little deeper.

Smaller wider and fat boards for old pharts, maybe but you’ll wind up playing around with your entry rocker to say the least.

I claim no liabilty for injuries to old bodies, thank God for ObamaCare!

Hey Mattwho

Beautiful board. Quick question, how does the full bottom VectorNET feel as opposed to no reinforcement? Noticable stiffness and more favorable performace?

Thanks

~Brian

Yeah a lot of this high performance stuff is over my pay grade. I can’t claim anything high performance at my age, maybe less low performance lol.

but the recent quad is an attempt to ride something with a bit different feel than a standard mal longboard.

im about ready to put fins on my 9 foot rounded pin, seriously thinking quad again. Love single but trying to break out of my rut. And smaller fins good for kelp. Any input appreciated.

love my rp quad HPLB…so much fun on anything with a wall…has an extra gear above the 2+1…

Hey Brian,

In regard to “noticeable stiffness and more favorable performance” compared to the previous boards (unreinforced) this board doesn’t chatter and feels more lively.

From my Son’s and my own experience in riding them (my board is 10’-6") both glassed single 4oz bottom. So far so good.

Thanks for the complement!

Aloha!

Hey Icc,

Your advise was what is the basis of where we started with the LB quad set up, I liked the forward placement and set in from rail, it works VERY well (test rider report i.e. “boy”) really the only board that he has stuck with the quad set up.

Big help mahalo!

glad it helped, Matt… looks like ‘your boy’ is having whole lotta fun, nothing better the a board stoked youngster…

cheers
