I found this board in my parent’s garage. It was covered in 80’s wax and sand. My dad said that my mom bought it for him for their anniversary and he only rode it a few times before he put it in storage. I know it’s from the early 80’s or late 70’s. It’s 6’6’', single fin, and shaped by Sam Hawk. My mom said she got in Encinitas, CA from a guy she knew who managed the Brewer store. She said that the board was supposed to be shipped to Hawaii and not sold in CA. I was hoping that someone could tell me a little bit more about it, and if I should even be riding it. It’ll be hard to hang on a wall because the thing absolutely rips.
Thanks for the compliments on the board. I’m super stoked about it. I couldn’t even sleep last night, but I’m sure you all know how that feels. I was wondering if anyone could tell me the year, model, worth, etc. Any suggestions on a fin size for the board. The original one dissapeared and the one in it fits loose. Any information on it would be helpful. Oh yeah, I’ve decided I’m going to surf it untill I find someone to shape me one just like it, and yes it must have the deck twist.
It must feel pretty magic to you to want someone to shape one just like it. How does the deck twist make the board feel as opposed to the same shape with no twist? Just curious to hear your response.
The deck twist seems to want to hold you in the face for some reason. Also, on bumpy days I notice it just slices through the water where my 6’6’’ spyder slaps the water. Also I’ve noticed that I can make a harder backside bottom turn. Whatever it is, it’s magical and I doubt anyone could recreate it. Just fate I guess.
Gary’s the man… unless you want Dick to make you one (I can arrange that if you’ve got a wad of cash). Gary was head of production for Brewer for 35 years before a five year hiatus. He and Dick are working together again.
Dick says Gary makes the best Brewers of any of his proteges.
