has anyone tried it? what is it, exactly (chemical composition)? could i make my own with stuff from the local hardware store?
no one knows anything?!?
Howzit soulstice, Never heard of Hula Dek, what is it and what is it’s function, Aloha,Kokua
it’s a longboard traction alternative to wax, and it’s perfectly clear so your board still looks pretty. you just roll/paint a thin film on the deck. if you don’t wear a rash guard, it’ll give you really bad belly-burn, but otherwise it looks pretty nifty. it isn’t very expensive, but i’d still like to know what’s in it before i spread it all over my boards.
here’s a link to a place that sells it: http://surfsource.net/Manufacturing/Additional%20Materials/additionalmaterials.htm
I haven’t used wax on my personal boards since the early 80’s and I’ve tried just about everything. Most products like Hula deck are pretty abrasive if you aren’t wearing a wetsuit. In my experience, they wear off in a few months and have to be reapplied. This is the first one I’ve seen that’s clear; most are translucent or come in opaque colors. There is also a translucent transfer film available which has texture imprinted on it (also abrasive). It is relatively clear and will outlast the board. However, it is a byatch to put on and the board must be free of deck dents.
