Hurley Rab 3

Pretty cool board . Shape is one I have wanted to try since I saw the first one at the US Open years back. Don’t know who shaped this one but it was glassed at the watermans guild.

You’re a jerk for keeping us guessing on the fin setup!

I’m guessing twin + trailer???

Board looks SWEET, you’re STOKED!

I once had a Aipa thruster stinger that looked similar to that.

It was one of my favorite boards. Stupid lightweight PUPE, the thing fell apart under my feet.

more pix tonight

Hurley is a good shaper.  Back when he used to do it for a living, he used to finish the blanks to 320; back then I thought it was overkill, but his attention to detail seems to have paid off.  That picture of him unloading the blanks in the video you posted is outside the Wave Tools factory, now Pure Glass in Costa Mesa.  Lance Collins was an excellent production guy, and good teacher; furthermore at that time his boards were coveted around the world, and Hurley was there, so was I.

These are tri-fins. The original was a twin, but Hurley modernized it and add the center fin.

Some swell moving in next week

t

off topic in a way  but here is a board i built in 1985 i have just restored it    it is amazing how we keep stirring around the timeline?/

cheers huie

Looks good Huie, In the late seventies and early eighties over here that fluted wing was the rage, but what I nightmare to glass and sand.  In my opinion Stussy’s looked the best back then, but Hurley’s looked great too, Orange County pretty much rocked when it came to surfboard design, and I could go on with a list of great shapers.  Fortunate enough to have spent a little bit of time with both of them, and its not that surprizing that both became so successful.  IPD = INTERNATIONAL PRO DESIGNS, seems like he exceeded even his wildest dreams, Right On, Bob!

Bam …if you surf good.

Bob knows what he is doing , this board is crazy fun in everything so far . 2-3 feet mush to  4-6 feet low tide and grinding .
