Just want to make sure this looks OK. Decided to do these post-hot coat. Basically used a hard sanding pad on a vibrating triangle sander to knock down the glass/resin. These are looking fair but I haven’t gotten all the tape out yet. But, this has me wondering whether I’m even supposed to.
Need at least a sealer, secret sauce (acrylic varnish) that will hide a bit fiberglass cut.
What would you recommend? Thanks!!
I don’t know where you are, but in the U.S. we have a product called Behr Floor and Tile Sealer. It can be purchased at Home Depot. It is an Acrylic Sealer. Wipe on one side at a time and allow to dry. No drips or runs, especially at the rail. Double check. Use a cotton rag, dishwash sponge or what we call a staining pad(Home Depot). When I use a sponge I wet it with water and then ring it out throughly. I put a little sealer on the board and then lay it off from end to end. Just like you would a brush. Taping off the boxes isn’t necessary provided you are careful and don’t get a bunch of sealer in the slot. After it is throughly dry, burnish it with a 3M pad under an Orbital Sander. Shines up nice to a Satin finish. Behr Floor and Tile Sealer; AKA “Secret Sauce”.
Sounds good. Are box installs meant to look like mine with the glass exposed? I’ve seen some vids and they’re so clean it had me wondering if I screwed it up. Gonna grab some of that sauce and clean these up after I sand the rest. Thx!!!
The sealer may make the dry glass go away. But to be sure try wiping that dry cloth with some acetone or styrene. Styrene will do the trick most likely. You’re over sanding. Grind the lip of the box flat and then lay off hitting the flange and cloth around it so hard.
I figured. I was using a hard sanding pad flat with the plan that it would evenly sand down to the tape. But I believe this didn’t work for me because I had some issues glassing with thicker resin and 6+6oz glass. Lot of tenting I think. That’s why the surround areas are so high. But I’ll for sure seal them and it should look good. Thank you.
