Yes good luck on surgery and insurance. Speedy recovery.
Yep best wished for a Speedy recovery and I hope the whole medical establishment does not line up to fleece you, and give you a five finger prostate exam, and your heirs as well.
I was in NZ once hiking back down to sea level through a river valley all rubber kneed, when I slipped and fell.
When I strightened up I saw a the middle finger on my left hand was bent 90 degrees sideways. I straightened it out with my other hand.
Healed OK. Never sought medical help. I just duct taped a splint across the knuckle for a few weeks and kept surfing.
Thnx all - wrc that’s exactly what I did. X-ray showed I got it back but not lined up right, other tip is floppy cuz tendon no longer attached.
For the finger with the floppy tip, splint your finger for at least 2 weeks. Splint the tip, the last 2 segments of your finger, I can’t remember if it was 6 weeks or less. I did that several years ago. The tip is OK now, but I can’t bend it all the way like the other fingers. Almost but not all the way. Not a big problem except for playing guitar.
Well, in the end the finger doctor cut the pinky finger open, put the bones back in place, and put a steel pin in to hold it while it heals. The other finger they’re telling me to keep splinted, like sharkcountry says. In two weeks I get the pin out. Pain is intermittent, but excruciating at times. But they gave me painkillers.
Looks like yellow epoxy on the good nail!
Heal fast!
Ya know, between you and Fanning
Surfing is dangerous!
“If you don’t surf don’t start”
If u look closely at pic - I think dr. was kinda showing off a little cuz she removed fingernail for surgery, then re-attached it with tiny little suture knots at each corner!
I mean really, who does that? This dr. had skill! And maybe a sense of humor too?
I told the nurse it was a surfing accident she said haha great story what happened really?
I shouldn’t have opened this thread while eating my lunch!
Seriously though, that looks kinda gnarly. Lots of nerve endings in fingers and hands, ergo lots of pain. Hang in there - there will still be waves when you get back.
bummer…hope that sorts itself soon mate.
Thnx all, comments about pain are right on, also can’t believe how many things I can’t do with those two little fingers out of commission! Counting down the days until the pin comes out. Once I’m healed I’ll be making up for lost time!
