Just made $100 on a repair job for a SUP. A little bit of putty work and a layer of 4oz. over the entire rails, nose to tail. Fill coat, sand smooth and spray bomb with "appliance epoxy".
One hundred dollars. Five twentys. Cash. Moola. I think I'll make a photocopy of the bills and frame it. First legal tender I've earned from this hobby.
That’s nice but if you recapped the rails, finish sanded, filled and painted you did not charge enough for your work. I’m sure it took you 3-4 hours plus material costs. I’ve been doing ding repair for years for 2 shops, I generate a bill with material costs and labor hours so there is no dispute or adjustments to the cost of the repair. My worst customers are my friends.
The only thing good about a SUP is the fact that a guy like you or me can make a few bucks on the side fixing them. Now go out and buy a fish blank before you spend all your extra cash on Beer and women!!!!!!!
A good friend gave me his vintage longboard to put back into shape for a scanning to reproduce. It had a cracked fin base, plus delamination under the fin pads, delam on the deck and bottom, split rails and many unfixed dings that had been that way for years. The board was very different from left and right, so I picked out the best side, sanded it top and bottom, hotcoated, re-sanded, spot filled the knee dents that didn’t fill on the first go around, hand block sanded until there were no low spots anywhere, got it to the machine shop only to get a gazillion phone calls and texts that I need my board back, picked it back up from the machine shop before they could scan it, spent a day getting the fin back on and another resand and gloss, No Good Deed Goes Unpunished
just wait until you get 7 sups to fix all at once and your wondering where to put all theses things cause they take up so much space
and just wait until you get " that guy" to get his board fixed and and only wants one ding fixed when it has ten then when he comes to pick it up thinks you put all those other dings in the board and expects all the dings to be fixed
there is a lot of annoying scenarios that happen in this industry so get ready
Well that was fun. Gas. Dinner. 12 pack. A twenty for the wife . A twenty for the kid gas&lunch. Lunch for me today. Now I'm down to about 10 bucks and that won't buy the blank stingray told me to get. Oh well.... maybe some wax.
Ha Ha,,,I told you to buy a blank...now you have nothing.....next time buy the blank before you tell the wife you have extra money....I'm stoked for you! Ray
