I know its not surf related

…ambrose…

Hi Reverb,

It’s hard to show in the pictures, but the original landscaping didn’t work.  All the plants were overgrown, and not maintained.  All dead growth, with a little life on the edges.

And yes it is for sale, but if I post about the sale, it would end up in the surfshop forum with the Coil and Stoker threads.

I’m predicting this thread will top ten pages.

yeah, i prefer the before look. some pruning would  have done wonders. the house had some character. now it looks like a pre-modular unit...

Hi Mark,,,I'm building two surfboards for Plaskett Creek...the boards are not for customers....the boards are based on designs that Keith M has been working on......One board 7' and one board 6'10".......you get to test drive the boards....when you fall in love with my work you can buy one of the surfboards......or have my blessing to rip a template from the boards.....work hard my friend...see you in a few months............

......Ray....

Hi Ray,

Now that my day job is done for a bit, I’m starting on a couple of boards too.  Today was my first full day off in about six months!  So are your Plaskett boards the vacuum bag specials you posted about?  I’m hoping for good waves this fall!

Hi Matt,

Pruning only works if you have healthy plants to begin with.  These were neglected for the last twenty or so years.  All dead wood underneath.  If you prune them when they are that far gone, thay just die.  It is in a neighborhood full of kids.  The new family would much prefer a grass area for them to play in, than overgrown brambles for the rats to hide in.  We saved what we could.

I’m at it again.

Sort of surf related, because it is just down the road from Rincon.  Going through Santa Barbara Design Review Board.  Hopefully completed in about a year.

Not completely unrelated.  I have a waterproof MP3 player.  Imagine surfing to this going off in your head!

Nice Mark! I’ve done a little construction work but nothing compared to what you and others on this thread are doing.

I’ve got a lot of respect for you guys

Regarding the song above… How do I make the “blowing chunks” emoticon???

hahah, to each their own

Oh, and, Led Zeppelin is the WORST COVER BAND EVER.

hahaha

Ahhh Chris!

This was the soundtrack of many early morning runs into Jalama.   A lifetime ago…

There’s no basket ball hoop above the garage. WTF is up with that? Good luck with the permits and all that shit, Mark. Walls lam’d with that plastic stuff you like I assume? Mike

Update on the next one.

It took six months to get through Design Review Board.  They made it clear that they weren’t going to let a designer/ contractor get anything approved.  So I gave my AutoCAD files to an architect and paid them a couple of thousand to put their name on my drawings.  Guess what… passed the first go around!

I should break ground in about six weeks.  Come on by for a visit.

Hey Mark,

We just closed on a 1924 Bungalow, total fixer.  It has a detached garage and a shaping shed.  Yipeeee!  I’ll be back in board making mode fairly soon.

Also, I have an exhibition at the Hollywood Heritage Museum, in case anyone ever visits Tinseltow-Jeff Matsuno

Try building houses near the coast in the Northeast. All sorts of hurricane-proof specs and extra fasteners/hardware required, including windows that have to withstand 100mph winds. Then, you have to think about whether the site is in the “coastal zone”, historic district, abuts a wetland, and a whole lot more. I worked on a house two years ago that was sold to a private party by a “preservation society”. The society did nothing to preserve the building. They just painted it (poorly) every few years and rented it out. The new owner had a ton of deed restrctions and covenants that prohibited all sorts of modifications. All new plumbing, wiring, HVAC, the works. But, they could not insulate the walls because there were 200 year old murals on them and those could not be put in jeopardy. The main support beams in the crawl space were rotted, but the preservation rep went ballistic because we cut one stud out of a corner closet to run some duct work. I could go on. It was a nightmare.

Hi Jeff,

I couldn’t get the link to work.  I’d be interested to see your new home.  Let me know if you need anything.

You can just about see the property.  The little houses in front of the big grass field.

Picture 20 is Plaskett Creek

I know its not surf related, but this is the coolest video I’ve seen in a long time!
