And I guess Literature and Art degress should be labeled “Micky Mouse” as well!

Thats great…where do I sign up?? I always knew I wanted to be a “pro” beach bum…lmao…

Sorry… I have to agree with them 100%. I find that insulting to the rest of us that busted our asses for our degrees… then again, we (in engineering school) spent a fair amount of time making fun of the fine arts majors.

There’s plenty of science that goes into surfing and the creation of waves… but it is science, and you major in fluid mechanics, or physics, or meteorology. If you want to apply what you’ve learned to surfing, great, but you still a legitimate curriculum.

There’s enough people out there with degrees in communication that are trying to find a job related to their studies… whatever that is.

If those social engineers who want everyone at the same level carry on like this then everyone will be issued a set of degrees with their birth certificates on day one. R.S.

I know people with degrees in Social Services that can’t find jobs either. Only some many social workers are needed. I think a surfing degree could be easily made academic. Shaping and glassing w/ composites are easily classes themselves. Fluid dynamics coving fins, board design and wave types. Oceanography, chemistry, metorology. All these classes could be rolled up with basics and the prereq’s for upper levels like Oceanography and such. Hell all you need is 60 hours of instruction. And none of that even included actual surfing instruction.

I went to school and got my degree. I would have loved to minor in surfing. Hell I don’t even have a minor. Math and Computer Science were my natural talents. So I have degrees in both.

Maybe you are right, any subject can be made academic. I am possibly knee jerking but the idea of a surfing degree just doesn’t appeal. It smells to me like just another move to make education into a ‘fast track into a job’ option. Also the idea of pupils being spoon fed the current surfing status quo is ghastly. R.S.

NOT the first surfing degree in the UK.

Plymouth University has been running,

BSc (Hons) Surf Science and Technology

http://www.plymouth.ac.uk/courses/course.asp?id=1645

for more than four years.

yeah that’s a waste of time.

I like the look of this one

At least you could study the dynamics of the superbank
