I need board-buying advice

I’m looking into buying a 6’5"x19.5"x2.6" fletcher four. I’m an alright surfer, 6’3" 195 lbs, gonna be surfing around santa cruz a lot next year. I’ve only had a few boards, and my current one, a blue poly JC 6’7" flying pig (I’m riding it in my avatar) is falling apart. I need to get a new more durable board, and I wanted to know if the stretch would be a good board for me. And If not, what would you reccomend? If I do get it, should I get it in tuflite or TL2? I heard you guys over here at sways know your shit so hopefully I can get some good input.

definitely demo one if you can…surfboards are a little pricey to just get one and decide you dont like it (although i really want one too)…actually demo a lot of boards with both the quad and tri set ups…see what you like best then go for it…even better while on a demo you like…copy the outline and rocker, buy the supplies, make your own

tuflite and tl2 are basically the same thing, but they claim tl2 is lighter and stronger…i dont think its really noticeable though…some people on here dont like those methods of construction…mostly because theyre not 100% hand made and are outsourced to china…but for durability, weight, float, theyre schweet…i love my 5’11" santa cruz barney…my favorite in my quiver

so basically i have no good input…ha

i’d recommend getting a custom from stretch. i have a couple and they’re great boards.

imo - the dimensions you gave are going to net you a board that isn’t going to give you a lot of float for your size and being an alright surfer, especially in average santa cruz surf. it’ll work better in good surf.

I think those boards carry a little more width in the tail and also have a lower entry rocker so he might be OK for average surf, but his 195 lb frame and a wetsuit (assume you use them a lot in SC) might be the deciding factor.

I was thinking that I could go a little smaller b/c tl and tl2 are a little more buoyant, but I’m not sure. btw tommy, what kind of construction were ur boards and how did they ride?

the stretch boards i have are all eps/epoxy. i love the way they surf. i’m 175lbs - average surfer when i’m having a good day. i had a 6’6" x 19.5 x 2.5 and i had trouble catching waves sometimes - it surfed great on the waves i got into. i also have a 6’10" x 20.5 x 2.7 - surfs great. just picked up a 6’6" x 20.5 x 2.7 but haven’t had a chance to surf it yet.

I would agree with tommy. Get a custom from Stretch. They are epoxy/eps, so theoretically they should be more durable than poly, but probably not as durable as tufflite. I would rather go to Stretch and get the custom than buy from Thai. Afterall you did state that you would be in Santa Cruz. Go Local and get the real deal.

Yeah getting a custom sounds like a good idea. Does anyone know how long it takes to get a custom from stretch?
