I Rode a Surftech Shortie the other day...............my report..........

You thoughts were appreciated.Herb

LOL…Ok.

I’ve ridden a bunch of Surftechs, and I think it’s all about the shape and shaper. I have a 9’6" Yater that I’ved surfed in everything from ankle-biters to double-O. If you only have one board to take to the beach, this could be it. It’s catches anything and is easy to huck around. I don’t only have one board to take to the beach though, so it’s been spending it’s time living in the garage (my favorite longboard is a 9’2" Brewer performance noserider).

The early Surftechs were duplicates of poly boards. Because of the differences in materials, they were corky and stiff. They’ve made enough of them now that the good shapers have figured out how to design around the technology.

They’re not customs. They’re made to suit the widest range of surfers. There are over 300 models by sixty some-odd shapers. They might not make your dream board, but they should make something that works ok for you.

i wouldnt buy one or ride one cuz im not into mass production, mass consumerism,

or mass marketing.

i dont want to have the same anything that anyone else does

i hate kookteck

i dont care if there good to ride not

they suck and are evil

the machine takes everything we had that was creative and beautiful in the human spirit

and turns it into a product or institution

the environment is on the brink of devestation

and industry just keeps on keeping on

surftech does not belong here imo

and anyone thats sold out to the machine should have their name scratched off the cool shaper list

cuz industrys rape of the planet aint cool

“i dont care if there good to ride not”

???

I like silly, he’s…what can I say…silly !

And he has a right to his own opinion.I think he needs to ride one first before he foots a put in his mouth though? HUH?

It’s just a surfboard!!! Get over it…geeeezzz, !!!

To the BIG wheels that run this world, we’re just a bunch of adults that never grew-up and still play with our kiddie toys.

In the big senario of this planet,surfing/surfboards aren’t going to make a bit of difference, globally…not one mircron !

…Bombs and small arms do that for us.

…Watch the movie,“Lord of War”.That’s what it’s really about.Herb

I met Aldous Huxleys son a few years ago ('94 or '95) and had dinner with him and his wife.

Since ‘A Brave New World’ is one of my favorite books - I had to ask him if he thought it was coming true.

He said the most interesting thing was the correspondence between his dad and Geo. Orwell (1984)

They asked each other the same thing - which one was going to be right …

Their opinion was (if my memory is correct) is that it would be most scary if both came true…

It looks that’s where we are a heading!

Big government and cloning (of boards)

It is all going in the way of the model t factory line

hahaha… “It’s more important to look good, than to feel good”.

Some guy wanted to try my board, so we traded in the water and I got to ride my first Surftech. It was an 8’6" Harbour Rapier Surftech. I’ve ridden a lot of boards, and this was the worst board ever (maybe I’m spoiled?). It looked good though! Glad Herb’s experience was good with that shorty.

most surfers I know would ride a board painted with dildos all over it if it rode well!!

Or is that just saying something about the company I keep ?

But I must say that I had the same experience when I had a go on a surftech 5’9 fish at 2 ft pasta point it rode a whole lot better than I expected.

Daren.

Surely I meant with dildos painted all over it ?

Lay off the drugs son.

yeah dudes

im sure there are a lot whores out there that are good rides as well

but i still wouldnt go there

“this wont make a difference that wont”

what can i do ?

guys it all makes a difference

the antartic summer ice is gone in ten years

the old growth forests are to be gone soon as well

(so m FS can have there outdoor kwila barbecure furniture)

nothing changes until the CONSUMER

wakes up and changes

so be my guest

spend up for christmas

in a few years something else will relplace kookteck

there will be racks of them at factory whorehouse prices

they will all over the beach

they will be floundering in the impact zone by the thousands at a break near you

btw

i like you to herb!

Classic Paul!

Silly,

Does you views extend to all pop-outs?

Are domestic pop-outs types okay ?

There are several here in the USA.

howzit! i have the 9-2 takayama diamond tail that woked incredibly well in so-cal conditions until the wind picked up. due to the corkiness of the board the wind chops worked against you.

although i took the board to oahu and surfed solid overhead waves on the north shore and was totally impressed on how it handled with a cross wind at puaena point. i was also surprised that in between sets i noticed 3 out of four longboards in the line-up were takayama surftechs.

i think if there is enough juice behind the wave, chops don’t really phase the st’s.

i thought i preferred heavier long boards but after getting adjusted to the lightness the lighter boards actually work better. i left the takayama in oahu and i now surf the aviso 9-0 in so-cal.

i still have fiberglass surfboards, long and short. also looking forward to my custom griffin five fin!

well herb

i guess it the whole popout sport industry mate

wharehouse sports shops invade small towns thing

popout surfboards are just one aspect of the mindless consumerism of western culture

most of the goods in those types of stores are made in chinese sweatshops

whether it be outdoor furniture made form rainforest timber or shoes made by children slaves

im just not into it mate!

not ony that

the whole dumbing down thing and westeners not being able to do anything for themselves

you know what i mean?

surfing just means so much more to me than that

its spiritual!

a popout surfboard to me like a plastic jesus to a christian

Silly,

I share some of your views, but to me , I can go either way with it,(in the 70s people said the same things about the fish design)…it’s called,“Freedom of Choice”.

It’s a brave new world out there…don’t be afraid to explore it !Herb
