Idiot futures install screw ups

So I am installing Futures boxes into my first board. I did a practice run on my practice blank and everything came out perfect. So I started cutting in my 3/4" boxes. The first one went great. I told myself don’t pick up the router before it is stopped. So on the second box that is exactly what I did. I put about a 1 inch long down the inboard side about 1/8 wide in the deep cut. So I got mad and sure enough did a real small nick on the second cut. So then I did something dumber. I started cutting the 1/2" box and as soon as I finshed the first box I noticed my plastic shim sitting on the shelf. So after a few choice words for myself I finished the last 1/2" box correctly.

The first thing I need is someone to slap me in the face. Thanks, much better.

So should I to fill in the gap in the 3/4" box with some resin and filler and reroute?

Fill the suppose to be 1/2" box half way with filler and then reroute or should I route out the other 1/2" box to 3/4" and just get two other 3/4" boxes?

Fill the 1/2" just with resin when I glue them in?

Thanks for the help, I have been wondering when I was going to screw something up with this board!

No big deal, you can fix it. For the forward (3/4’') boxes, just whittle yourself a piece of scrap foam to fit the ‘‘mistake’’. The small one may not even need it. You can glue this insert in or just let the install resin take care of setting it.

For the rear (1/2’‘) you have two choices: 1) Do as above; make an insert for the bottom of the ‘‘deep’’ route. 2) Route both to 3/4’‘, install 3/4’’ boxes and use the insert that Future makes to adapt the 1/2’’ base fins to the 3/4’’ box. And no, they don’t make anything that works in reverse for that… I’d advise #1, that’s an easy little shim to make.

I’m glad I’m not the only one that thinks this way…it actually helps to take the edge off when you do finally manage to inadvertently hack 1’ off the nose of your blank, drop the board when taking final photos after polishing, letting the resin go off in the pot and boil over on to the board…etc, etc.

Not that this board was going to be perfect by any means, but it was coming along so well I figured something was looming! Afoaf your sig is priceless info…lol

Thanks for the reply MD. While I was trying to sleep I thought about making some inserts to pop in there. Can I use 5 min epoxy to set the inserts in there or use some lam resin? I have read about people setting boxes with 5 min but unsure. Now thinking of leash cups, my wife is a goofy foot and I am regular. I didn’t really want to put the leash cup in the center because I don’t want the leash getting caught in the crack. I saw those stick on leash plugs and thought about sticking one on each tail.

I just put a stick on leash plug (the clear kind) on a board and wound up putting it through it’s paces in some 3-5’ before the 72 hour recommendation…worked solid.

I’ve seen these on the Cooperfish too…heavy boards…lots of tension…my neighbor (cooper fanatic) indicated he’s had zero issues with those plugs on his big (10’+) coops.
