The bottom has been laminated with 6 oz and is doing well. Now I am ready for the deck. Here’s what I did, and perhaps you guys can tell me if I’m ready to mix and pour. I put down two 6 oz sheets of glass on the top with my laminates in between the sheets. The sheets are trimmed so that they will wrap around to about the middle of the rails. I smoothed everything and am ready to mix and pour the laminating resin. So, am I forgetting anything? Will the resin saturate through both layers? (That’s really my question.) I am using polyester resin. Thanks again. You guys rock, and if beer could be sent through the internet, I would crack one open for each of you. Mike (Fairmont) Fairbanks
2 things - your topmost layer of cloth should wrap around the rail completely and cover about at least an inch of bottom. and placing your laminates between the layers of cloth will impede saturation of resin to the bottom layer. pull back both layers, brush a thinnish film of un-catalyzed resin on the blank where you want the laminates to go, apply the laminates to the blank, brushing them gently till they’re saturated, and then roll out your layers of cloth again and glass both layers as you had planned to do. regards, barnacle toes>>> The bottom has been laminated with 6 oz and is doing well. when laminating the deck…do most glassers cut the cloth like the Carper video? meaning the first layer is cut away from the nose, tail, and rails. or is it stronger to cut both layers exactly the same?
What’s the trick with corners and points at the nose and vicious swallow tails when there is not enough glass when folded under? Regards Holger ps. especially with pigments as you can see extra layers
