In case you might miss it

this time of the year the salmon swim uup stream to spawn and die

there’s a broken McTavish surph teck in my yard with the price tag adhesive still in place on the deck.

New Improved!..?..

old pitch

old saaw

berts workin’ hard

the world capital of alternative credibility/integrity,Kudos

the bear eats so much decomposing salmon it puts 'im to sleep

drain plugs are the solution to constructions that are designed with a breach feature.

the simple surf board is a glory to behold

the tricky construction one upsmanship will

consume itself and hibernate in favor of a simple solution

that will be so refreshing ,sombody will pick it up a n d

go surfin an have …fun…remember?

… ambrose…

the drain plug in my head

only operates

when I drop into a wave

with nobody on it

multinational corperations dont surf

God bless Velzy

put a drain plug in a Quigg hollow balsa 22’ 14# board in the 50’s

appropriate application of tech-knowlege

Quigg aint a kook ,Velzy aint a kook

all the rest of us are by comparison.

lets go surfin and learn sumpthin’

let us aspire to greatness and not be diluted by false prophets/profits,infighting, and dubious goals

we humble students of the arts have a great tradition to fullfill

and the history of such has a thousand years yet to do before equaling the UNWRITTEN simplicity of the pre 1800 hawaiian surfboard…

all the lightweight high performance boards biodegraded 200 years ago.

were they woven of lauhala?

The Dolphin Defender

Studies of dolphins and orcas in the wild.

Asia is making petting and swim with Flipper parks - copying and cloning where they shouldn’t outta be. Make a frickin wave park and let my people go, please? With artificial sweetner on it? I ain’t cryin?.. Yeah right.

Then a news story on the DANGERS of Disneyland. Included a story on how the gun at the fort, where you could take out the entire Native American race, with some well recorded gunfire sound track and, Seig Heil, practice making the Carousel of Color, color - white, had severed most of someone’s finger off.

Corporate male dominate. S-core techno-surfaholics anonymous. God Bless those that bless the best, renumeration optional, retirement industry caretake mandatory.

I can barely manage one eighteen year old, sign him up for technology classes is like pulling teeth. How revolting. Balsa ain’t new, we made some planes, sonny boy. I know you can out surf me, but just learn all the steps to what goes under your feet. For Velzy’s sake.

Do you need a drain plug if your membrane is only a few mils thick? Oz Moses… now where did I put those flippers? Bert and Ernie got some splainin to do.

I feel a sea-change beneath me, lifting me, dropping me into a new space and time of different thoughts and views.

I usually miss the early signs of such changes,

And later find that I have been swimming upstream and my arms are tired and I wonder why.

But this time…this time, I get to ride it out at trim speed, and also

Get to watch! Wouldn’t miss it for the world.

The fundamental correct changes will always occur. The challenge is to not get distracted.

To those words may I add the following, from Jim Harrison…

“The danger of civilization, of course, is that you will piss away your life on nonsense.”

Figuring out the wheat from the chaff, to continue Ambroses agricultural metaphor (“gleaning”), is the tough part. I somehow doubt the Carl’s Jr. mindset (hopefully still just a U.S. weapon of ass destruction) will carry one into a state of grace. The hereafter, certainly, and probably a level of mindless consumer debt that will enslave some percentage of the population for decades to come.

Is it just me, or is practically nobody advertising surf schools in Southern California this year?

Partly due to an aged wetsuit which has chosen this spring to give up the ghost I am planning on going retro - see how much fun surfing is without the Great Condom. It used to horrify the guys at Zuma way back when to see a barbaric northerner from Ventura surf or bodysurf in the summer without some kind of wetsuit. In the end it’s a game to play, to pique the interest…I seem to recall the best summer waves coming when I didn’t need wetsuits. Was it just adrenalin? Can’t go back, so in this age of science and economics I’ll simply try to recreate the circumstances with a half million of our closest friends.

To see the delicate casting of the drain plugs on what were Tom Blake’s “production” boards is to understand the elegance of another era. Who among the masses would appreciate such a thing? More than we might suspect, or give credit to. When the computer gets turned off late tonight my truck will be lightly loaded for a journey, unexpectedly early this year, but one which will have me returning 'neath June skies. They say it’s 2005 and I suppose it’s true- but I realized it just doesn’t matter. Can’t wait for Whatever Will Be…

Love the Harrison quote.

No regrets.

Enjoy the journey.

Seems like you remembered to travel light. Good call.

“You’ll never hear surf music again?”

We were comissioned to work on this rock, first to cool and to quench, then to put on a show, a liquid crystal display if you need those 4th of July Granduered Stanza type of salutes that, which when you awake, you realize are arrived at by taking the long way home, the eyes wide open route, the humble and silent path. And the only fuse that needed lighting was when you closed your eyes and saw the same sea of light that opened you in the first place. We are tethered to the lodge pole, and are taking up the dance, and we’re going to dance our heart out. The steps will come back slow and cautious then tried and sure and finally busting out joy cause we’re in the center of the four council fires of this Earth and we owe, lord, we owe.

There’s no missing it this time…
