Last years Sacred Craft Expo got me thinking about a project I’d wanted to do for a while and then Poobah’s post on rodntube regarding Candy Calhoun’s board put me over the top.
I bought the rough lumber at Austin in Santa Ana and got the blank glued up; then after a couple bull sessions I turned it over to the Master, Terry Martin who I’d been introduced to some time ago by my good friend and neighbor John Warren.
Terry says the wood I found was the hardest, densest balsa he’s ever seen.
Here is the unglassed board.

Not Much Rocker
Fins by John Cherry
Something like this…
How do you all feel about a handle?
The lack of rocker makes me think I may want something to hang onto…
Candy’s board has a really nice one.
This one hanging in Geoff Meyers shops is done well also, looks like it may have been done by the same person…?
Some old Wes Humpston Dog Town boards with handles but they’re not as nice looking…
And this really pretty fugly rope and tube job
What would be the proper way to secure a nice wooden handle to a board?
I contemplated using two opposing leash plugs connected with a rope but again not so attractive…
