So, think this may be my first post…so here’s my quick background story. I’m new to shaping, on my 8th board or so…but only on my second glassing job. A buddy of mine gave me a bunch of large printed inlays (rice/decal paper) but I have only worked with setting my smaller logos under the cloth. I am thinking about doing an inlay on the bottom from the waist back to the tail. Not sure if I should wet the inlay then roll the cloth back over it, wet both together, or wet under the inla…lay it, then the cloth. I am working with a poly blank and epoxy resin with 4oz cloth…Some advice on the best way to lay the resin down would be appreciated. I can post some pics of the placement when I get to the shop later today. Thanks in advance guys…
prep the cloth and the decal (cut to shap)
roll back the cloth
resin the blank where the lam will go
place your lam
squeegee out the air bubbles and excess resin
roll the cloth out and lam it
Thanks Ken, thats how I had done my smaller logos…just wasn’t sure if that method would work well for such a large area.
Cheers,
Kip.
Its a lot of area so you may need to move your lighting around to spot air bubbles
also a big lam wont conform to any major contours
hope the bottoms flat
Yes, the bottom just has a very subtle single concave and they lam is trimed before the rails. The only part I am a little worried about is around the fin plugs…they are FCS Fusion so they are a bit bumpy…
Thanks Ken, the lam went on well…i ended up cutting around the fin boxes with a razor blade, took care of dealing with the bumps and also gave me a guide to go by when I rolled the lam back out over the resin. Forgot to take pics though…lol I’ll take some this afternoon.
