Input on these dims please?

I’m 5’11" 175lbs. This board will be for knee to head high NC OBX. I’m a longboarder but am eager to get back into some performance surfing. Do these dims seem about right for a down the line smooth line drawing semi big thruster.

6’10" x 20.5" x 2 7/8

N = 12"

T = 14.5"

Trail fin 4" up

Side fins 12" up

1/4 toe

4 degrees cant.

How about help with rocker and fin size? This is my first shortboard style surfboard so I find myself in uncharted territory.

Thanks Gents.

Cheers!

Wide point ? where?

sorry Im not gonna be much help with you on rocker specs

I like to use the natural rock thats in the blank

someone already did the math so mite as well go with it

Sounds pretty good…

If you want to ride it in knee high surf, you may want to find a blank that’s designed for “retro” syle boards, and just all a little rocker in the tail and nose. A big guy fish blank works well, with a bit of kick blended into both ends.

Other thoughts… a quarter inch wider in the tail, and pulling the fins back to just under 4" and 12" will work well in smaller or weaker surf… meaning under head high.

I like 6 degrees cant, set into a shallow single concave for surf that size. It’s a fairly simple bottom that’s tried and true.

Hey SurfDad

Coming down off a longboard anything under 7’6" is going to feel like a 5’11" to you. The more you ride it the more natural it will feel. Make it easy on yourself and up the nose dims to help you catch them. You won’t notice any performance difference with an extra inch or two up front but you will catch a lot more waves and enjoy it more.

Outline dims are reasonable, but I’d set the fins at 11 1/2’’ and 3 1/2’‘, and toe them 3/16’’ max.

You don’t say what blank you’re using (or if you’re doing your own in eps), but if you’re going

for a performance board feel, you should have performance board rocker and foil, just blown up

to 6’10’‘. I’m not sure it needs to be 2 7/8’’ either, that’s going to be a lot of foam for 175 lbs.

Just the stuff I needed.

Okay, understand I should thin down a bit. 2.5"?

Fins back a bit - 3.5" and 11.5"

Toe - 3/16"

Forgot to mention this will be PU/PE. Haven’t picked out a blank yet. I live around the corner from Dave Barnes warehouse (Bennett) so I just need to sort through what he’s got.

Thanks Gents

Cheers!

I’m not at all familiar with the Bennett blanks, so I can’t make a suggestion there. Dave can

help you select. 2 5/8’’ with a nice deck roll should be good, don’t make the rails too thick.

(no thicker than the LB you usually ride) Have fun!

Back up , slow down… What do you really want?..How often do you surf. I’m not into fitness but I surf 3-5 times a week.

Go slow , think it over…

I’ve tried more than one “big guy tri” that sucked…All close to the dems you want. I’m 5’8" , 185 plus beer

The board that got me off of longboarding was a 7’6" speed egg. I’m down to a 6’5" disc and working on something shorter.

Age and time in the water are major factors. It can be very frustrating going from a Longboard to a sub 7 foot board

Do you want Glide or ???

Think about it…I catch lots of waves on my eight footer but it doesen’t turn like the six5…

Stingray…
